detox water

Hey guys!

I’m getting ready for my POP Pilates DVD shoot tomorrow (oops, I didn’t tell you?!) and am preparing my body and energy for a long day of working out! This is what I am drinking right now to detox and de-bloat so that I will look my best tomorrow. You should try it too…it’s refreshing, yummy, and easy to prepare!

Here’s how I prepare my Natural Belly Slimming Detox Water:

– 1-2 Liters water

– 1 cucumber

– 1 lemon

– 1 orange

– 10-15 fresh mint leaves

– handful of ice

Why this combo?

1. Cucumber: contains citrulline which is an amino acid that has been shown to help our liver and kidneys get rid of ammonia which is a by product of the proteins our bodies burn for energy.

2. Water: helps flush toxins and waste through our system while keeping us hydrated.

3. Lemon: stimulates the digestive track so it’s helpful if you have constipation, heartburn, or gas.

4. Mint: helps you digest effectively because it improves the flow of bile from the liver to the gallbladder to the small intestine to break down dietary fats. It also helps relax cramped up stomach muscles.

5. Orange: contains flavonoids in the peel and juice that stimulate the immune system and protects against a fungi/pests while helping to reduce cholesterol levels.

By the way, when I say detox, I’m still eating! Clean and light so I can feel energetic and look awake tomorrow! I’m avoiding anything too salty because that will retain water and make me look puffy. You can prepare the water the night before so that when you wake up, it will be flavorful. I also don’t leave the fruits in the water for longer than 24 hrs. By that time all the nutrients will be in the water anyway. PLUS you want to prevent any sort of bacteria or mold growth.

Hope you guys give it a try. And you can drink this all the time – not just for photoshoots or special occasions. It makes water drinking a lot more tasty actually!

2. Upload it to facebook, instagram, or twitter and tag me @blogilates and use the hashtag #blogilatesboard.

3. The project is due on Feb 7th. On that day you must also comment on AT LEAST one POPster’s board. This will help you make friends and help the whole Blogilates Community get closer!

Alrighty guys! Super love ya! Gonna go choreograph some moves for the DVD shoot tomorrow. Will instagram from the set in the morning…it’s gonna be cold. I am scurred. Really scurred.

    • Micha says:

I don’t include it simply because it’s hard to buy where I’m from and also expensive. (small towns…). Though it does help, the other ingredients should still give the desired effect. Hope that helped :)

  • Dee says:

I just have a simple question regarding the actual water bottle.. I’m fairly new to all this, so bear with me.
The top of the water bottle, is it completely covered? Or is there a hole I can drink from? Or..do I have to pour what I have into a cup?

    • Charlene says:

It doesn’t matter. I put it in a pitcher the night before then pour it with the fruits in my waterbottle and drink it the whole day, then refill it with water. Like she said only keep the fruits about for 24 hours then replace. I only use the fruits about 3 water refills then dump it. :) The main thing is drinking the water. I drink it everyday all day in place of regular water.

  • Fatima says:

I tried the detox water with cucumber, mint, orange and the lemon and I have to say that it tastes really good!!! I’ve never try it like that just with lemon in the water, this tastes a lot better so I think I’m gonna start doing it…. The only thing is that I started to feel that I wanted to go to the bathroom all day… is this natural?? I think next week I’m gonna try the one for the skin n_n thanks for all those recipes Cassey ¡^.^!

    • Leandra says:

      Hey Fatima,
When you are detoxing, you can eliminate the toxins from your body in a few different ways. If you get sweaty from exercise (or get a fever or something), some of the toxins will leave through the sweat. If you aren’t getting sweaty, the toxins are basically being filtered out of your blood by your kidneys, which is where urine production happens. So basically, yes extra trips to the bathroom totally natural for someone who is “detoxing.” Also, if you drank more liquid than usual (because it tasted better) then the higher water intake volume would lead to increased urine output volume too.
      Hope this helps!

  • Sarah says:

I just made this and YUM! These flavors are great together. I have a mint plant so i used that, and I also have a stevia plant so I added a few leaves of that in to give it some sweetness. I thought it was a little cucumber-y for my taste so I squeezed some of the lemon and orange juice in after removing the pieces. I also peeled the citrus and cucumber because I was afraid the peel would make it bitter (and none of them were organic and I didn’t want pesticide water!).

  • Erica says:

    Hey guys :)!
I was curious as to how much and how long do you drink the detox water for? (I made the cut the craving one). So, do you drink a liter a day for 7 days. Or more than a liter a day for a month!? What are the recommendations?
    Thanks fellow POPsters <3

    • Erica says:

Also, I don’t squeeze the lemon I legit just put all the fruits into is as solids?

  • emily-rose says:

I don’t have a orange or a lemon so I was going to combine the belly slimming detox and the craving control detox and do apple, mint, cucumber, water and 1 tsp. of cinnamon. can someone tell me if this will work before I try it. thanks alot

  • Kathy says:

is it ok to make this detox drink without the mint leaves? I live in a small town and the local grocery store doesn’t sell fresh mint leaves..

  • Maren says:

    Hi fellow POPsters!
So uhm … I think something went really wrong when I was trying this belly slimming water and I may need some advice. Here’s the situation: I tried it right after reading, wached all the ingredients and cut them, let it sit in the fridge overnight, then drank it … or not because all it tasted like was BITTER. Like, really bad. And kinda chemical.
So I poured it out and tried again, this time peeling everything first. Same results basically, this time just bitter without the chemical taste. And I was feeling really bad after drinking a little :/
So what went wrong? I mean I even peeled the stuff on the second attempt :(
Help much appreciated so I might one day enjoy it like you XD

    • cvest says:

Maybe it’s your bottle. Is it plastic? Try glass. Does the water taste fine without anything in? If nothing help try the fruit, mint, cucumber etc. separately, maybe you just don’t like the taste of them.

      • Maren says:

I used a glass jug to mix it in, so I guess that’s not it. I also drink the tap water without anything in it frequently, so that’s fine, too.
I’ll just try it bit by bit and see what it was about, then =)

    • Farwah says:

Don’t leave it over night just a few hours

    • Alexa says:

      Hey Maren,

the chemical taste most likely came from the peels! If you’re produce isn’t organic, keep in mind there may have been pesticides on the peel. That could explain the chemical taste. Regardless of whether its organic or not though you should always wash/scrub your produce before eating it! It’s just a good safety precaution to follow.
I personally haven’t tried this yet but it could just be that you didn’t like the taste (as far as the bitterness goes) as someone mentioned earlier. Going little by little sounds like a good plan to see what’s causing that bitterness!
Also! Don’t worry about feeling a little sick after drinking the water. Detox’s aren’t always pleasant bodily experiences if you know what I mean, haha. Most likely that’s your body reacting to all the nutrients and it usually means its starting to work! As you know, detoxes are meant to rid the body of toxins and all the junk we’ve collected over time so you will most likely have to use the restroom multiple times a day to flush it all out. So don’t freak out about that – its a good thing! In no time, you will be less bloated and feeling light and energized!

      Good luck :)

    • Danielle says:

When you cut the cucumber cut off the tips of rhe whole cuxumber about ans inch in on either side and rub the cut off piece on the end of the still whole cucumber. Then proceed to slice your cucumber and put it in your water. That should help with the bitterness.

Looks soooo yum! Must try this week. I love infusing waters, but I’ve never tried this combo of flavor a before! Mint in water = BEST!

  • Jamie says:

Hi~ I’m sorry, but this might be a stupid question. So how do I make this? Do I just put in all the ingredients and put it in the refrigerator overnight, or can I just drink it? Sorry. I have never made detox water. Also, what is a detox water diet? I won’t try because I heard it is unhealthy, but I would like to know what it is. Thank you~

    • sara says:

Yes. You just slice them and put them in the water. Don’t drink it right away. Try to leave it refrigerated for a few hours at least, if not overnight. Otherwise, if you drink it right away, you’ll only taste water because the nutrients in the ingredients wouldn’t have time to mix with the water.

    • Amy says:

This isn’t meant to be a diet. It is meant for you just to drink throughout the day. Along with this, you should be eating clean and maybe some lighter meals but still enough calories!

  • Rehan says:

I’ve made this same exact detox water a few times in the past and I drank it for a few days (that’s what the recipe said on the site I got it from) and it made me sick, I got a fever and it happened every time I drank it. Is it because my body was flushing out the toxins or what?

    • Kara says:

      Hi Rehan,
That is definitely not a normal reaction to drinking a mix like this. If you want to try it again, I’d just make sure you are eating well during that time so your body has some substance. Make sure you wash the skins of everything you put it (don’t just rinse, try to rub with your hand under the tap too)- even the mint could use a rinse! Fruits get touched constantly in the grocery store and could have had something on them that made you ill.
If it happens again, you should consult your doctor, or try filtered water maybe?
Hope that it works out for you this time :)

    • Amanda says:

I’ve made this before and I get really bad stomach pains. The fever could very well be your body’s way of flushing out the toxins. Now, I just make flavored waters with only a couple of the fruits like cucumber and mint together. I think that may be easier on the body.

    • Rosa @ HHR says:

Could you be allergic to any of the ingredients? It’s pretty unlikely to get feverish from fruits in water. Also, how long did you leave it? It might have been starting to go bad…

  • Ohhh I’m actually really liking this detox water. I bet it tastes just amazing, I don’t typically drink any flavored drinks or waters even but I think this would make a nice treat. Such a plus that it’s actually detoxifying too! Awesome :)

Definitely will try this recipe for a detox drink. I also can’t wait for the new pop pilates DVD. I love your first DVD!! The only thing is I hope it is more pop music and more upbeat than the first.

  • I like those inspiration boards! And that detox water looks amazing.

  • Looks like a great recipe! Good to know re: taking fruit out after 24 hours.

Yeah. This recipe was nice–I like flavoring my waters with fruit, but I never know how long I can keep it in, safely!

Can I replace mint leaves with basil?

  • That water sounds delicious….you never posted about that fat/Photoshop thing, huh? Just remember, those people aren’t POPsters; they’re just internet trolls. Don’t even give them another thought. You’re beautiful and talented, and we REAL POPsters love you!

    • Sarah says:

Well put! We love you Cassey! Also, would you please offer me advice on how to survive high school? I know you had a tough time with mean comments, and I am going through the exact same thing. What will help me keep my cheery spirit and love for working out alive?

      • Sarah says:

I’m not Cassey, but as cliche and easier-said-than-done that sounds, but simply put, you just don’t care what other people think about you. If their comments affect you, ask yourself why. Why do you attach value to their bile? Does their opinion of you change anything about your life or your goals? :)
People say horrible things to put others down, because they’re jealous, or unhappy with themselves or insecure- whatever the reason is, it’s not a positive one. Why would you let other people’s negative attitude that they chose to bring into their life affect your OWN life? It clearly is affecting them negatively, so whatever their deal is, don’t let it influence YOU and YOUR goals.
Let them be sourly and stew in their negativity while you go on and do what you want, become what you want and accomplish what you want.
Be happy with yourself and appreciate yourself. You are your own person and others and their opinions are just background noise that you can chose to ignore.

        • Sarah says:

Thank you so much! I AM going to put your powerful ideas into action and no longer let their words affect me. You are absolutely right…why should I give these people power over my own life? Whoever you are, thank you very much! I love the POPSTER community! =D

          • Lana says:

Sarah, just know that high school only lasts for a little while. And then you never have to see most of these people again. I know sometimes we can’t think past what is going on in our lives RIGHT THIS MOMENT, but it’s good to just take a deep breath and know there are MANY people out there who are good and friendly and happy. This whole community is full of them!

I’m 25 years old and I can honestly say high school feels like a million years ago. You move forward with YOUR life, stay focused on you, keep studying, keep working hard, and I promise the rewards will come! It may not be right this moment, but maybe you’ll be like me, and look back in ten years are see how much has changed. Because even though I know NOTHING about you, I am CERTAIN that change is inevitable. So just work for it, it will come!
