The Truth Behind Social Media…

The Truth Behind Social Media…

Hey guys!

Last week there was so much commotion about young instagram model Essena Oneill who decided to “quit social media” because she said it was fake. I decided to let it play out before I commented anything.

There’s been a lot of opinion battling between Essena, her old friends, and people all over the internet. On one hand, I see a girl who began to value her real life through virtual life, and couldn’t tell the difference between the two – only feeling validated by her followers and her likes. On the other hand, I see a girl who may have seen the light and decided to empower everyone else along the way, warning people to not get “brainwashed”.

Here’s the thing.

Social media is not bad.

It is simply what you choose to make of it. It is POWERFUL. And with power comes a lot of responsibility. If you don’t know how to use influence with integrity, it can become a very dangerous thing. And not just for you…for everyone who follows you.

Also, if you REALIZE that Instagram is simply everyone’s portfolio…a photo album really, then you can see it for what it is. Don’t compare your real every day life to everyone else’s highlight reel. People share what they WANT to share.

I promise you that there is NOTHING fake about what I’ve been sharing with you guys online since I started uploading videos in 2009. Social media has opened so many doors for me which may never have happened in the traditional entertainment world because of my ethnicity and the way I look. So I owe a lot to social media and to YOU GUYS for letting the public speak for itself.

ANYWAY…I filmed and edited a new video on Instagram hacks and the truth behind social media for you guys! It’s half silly and half very real. I myself spend a good amount of time getting good Insta pics, so to not let knowledge go to waste, I wanted to share with you my techniques!

Please comment below what you think about social media. Is it good or bad in your opinion. And what’s your Instagram!??

You choose what is more important to you. The image you give to the others or your own honesty.

    Hello all 🙂

I agree with the statement made that Social Media is how you make it out to be – if you don’t want people to be rude to you, then limit yourself with the posts that may generate that kind of reaction. We get to choose what we want to post, and that is why the option is there – thus you will have to accept whatever the reaction would be due to that. And of course, anywhere, there will always be etiquette. But thank you for sharing these thoughts, and of course for helping out all of us to be motivated every day.

I actually dont have a instagram, im a very private person and honestly my life isnt that interesting, im a stay at home mom so i dont really have anything intreseting to share and i wouldnt want to annoy anyone. I think social media is both, it depends on the person.

The part where you mentioned comparisons reminded me of a saying I once heard that social media are people’s highlight reels, so don’t compare your blooper reel to someone’s highlight reel.

we always have the power, the power to do or see things negatively or positively. But sometimes when we have continues bad experiences we get scared, we get traumatized despite of the saying that we get stronger, but we do get stronger. That is why we need to be brave enough to not fear the unknown, and mistakes that weve made should be learned. so enough of the blabber hihihihihihi bottomline in social media we should be smart or think about what we do, and we should always use it for motivation, inspiratiok and just pure positive energy sometimes gossip sure lol. but please we only have one life so we gotta live it to the fullest and just try to be happy! Love love!!!

And I think social media is good! You just have to learn how to filtrate perception of yourself and of others. Do it smart and you’ll find it very helpful.

    hi cassey
sorry this is a bit out of context…
i want to talk about face fat!
i generally have a good healthy body, i follow your wo calender, eat healthy.
my body responds well to exercise but its my face that’s bothered me most .
its round, its chubby and very very stubborn! its the first to gain and last to loose.
to reduce its vast surface area , i’ve had to, in the past, resort to starving myself, which obviously is not healthy for the rest of me.
i was wondering if you have any tips to help with my lemon on a stick!

    1. Jolene says:

I have the same problem and realized it gets worse when I eat/drink certain things. I think your genes have a lot to do with it and you can’t do anything about that but for me I noticed changing my diet helps. Obviously things like alcohol puff me up but even some healthy foods give me puffy face. Things like broccoli and brussel sprouts, bread (whole wheat/whole grain, all of it,) cheese, puff my face. I started making a note of when I felt my face was puffiest and what I had eaten in the last 24 hours and temporarily eliminating them to check for change. Also, when I indulge in say pizza or beer I notice I am puffier longer than from say broccoli. Sorry this got long, just something to think about. 🙂 Anyway, of course it’s important to remember that you are probably the only one who feels that way, I’m sure everyone else things your face is lovely so don’t be too hard on yourself! And definitely don’t starve. Why hurt your whole body to make your face happy? Good luck!

  12. “Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so”. Shakespeare

Like pretty much anything in life, social media can be used for the good, the bad, the ugly. Most of the time it’s up to us how we use, but again, like anything in life, there are bad people (cyber bullying or worse) out there.

Of course I’m not making my living from it either . . .

My IG is flo_maiko, i post on Instagram for me, and i’m proud of showing what ia can do in yoga, dance, and other stuffs. i think we are mayber the same because we like to show each other on the web, but we are intelligent to make the difference between the good and the bad web 😉

  15. Cassie says:

My Instagram is @superfitbabe! I think that social media is one of those things that you can either use to your great advantage or your worst disadvantage. I personally had so much positive experience with social media and a little negatives because of body comparison, some negative people, etc. BUT it is up to you as to whether or not you let social media consume you! What I do is delete Instagram off my phone every other day so I don’t bother to look at it, and then I post something the next day! Perfect schedule and way to moderately detox yourself from social media!

  16. Monet says:

I think social media like all things can be a bad thing if you cannot have balance. It definitely can connect a lot of people from different places and gives people a platform who usually wouldn’t have as you mentioned but if people mistake instagram and the like for real life then it can be depressing. People should always remember that social media is just one part of life and not the whole story but it can be a lot of fun and do a lot of good as well. My instagram is diamondaydreamer, I mostly use it as a place to document my progress in nail art and makeup as both are my hobby and it’s just nice to connect with people who have the same interests.

I only use social media in a limited way because of personal safety issues. Social media is an amazing avenue to spread the good vibes and positive information. Like so much in life, you get out of it what you put into it.

  18. Samantha says:

Totally agree. I have found my new fitness IG (sammyrae.fit) to be so inspiring – I love following real people working hard and showing progress. I have been so motivated on a daily basis to get my butt moving!!

I believe that social media is totally fine, as long as people approach it with the understanding that we are all unique. We all lead different lives. Likewise, we all share different gifts, talents, and tastes. A lot of girls are pressured by social media believing that they should look a certain way to be beautiful. When in fact, they are beautiful, because they are unique.

I love you girly. My Instagram is missemmaleonardi, I’d love for you to see it, if ya want! Xxxx

  21. Xoey says:

I definitely agree with you! Instagram has helped me find people all-around the world who also enjoyed popilates: I became friends with so many positive people who brighten my day not because of the number of likes they gave me but because of their own happy positive energy when they post their progress and fitness journey updates. Social media makes me realize that we popsters are in this together.
Cassie you changed my whole view on working out and I am now happier than ever so thanks for everything. Keep being awesome everyone!
