Maui: Best Things to Do and See

Maui: Best Things to Do and See

Hey guys!

Wow sorry, it has been a while since I last blogged! Got back from Maui and then was bombarded by work! I don’t think I’ve ever been this quiet on the blog for that long, so I apologize. It was really nice to JUST RELAX. I honestly haven’t taken a vacation since Blogilates started and it’s been full steam ahead for the past few years so it was actually kinda weird to not work. Does that make sense? I felt like I had to be on my phone and by the comp. Luckily though…after a couple days…my hands broke free from technology jail!

Anyway, we are LONG OVERDUE for a Maui recap! For those of you who have vacations planned here, these are the things you MUST DO!

BEST PLACE TO EAT: The Gazebo in Lahaina, Maui, HI

salad pancakes

Great prices. Great ambiance. (You’re literally in a gazebo on the edge of the shore looking at the ocean.) A LOT OF FOOD. They do not skimp on the food. I had the tuna and bay shrimp salad with papaya dressing and it was AMAZING! The mango slices and avocado made the whole thing perfection. But I know that you’re looking at that stack of pancakes. Shall we take a closer look?

pancakes

Triple decker Macademia Nut Buttermilk Pancakes. They are famous for these. You better bet we ordered them as an appetizer!! Haha.

BEST PLACE TO SEE SEA TURTLES: Ho’okipa Beach Park, Paia, Maui, HI

sea turtles

These majestic beauties are so breathtaking in real life. We were so lucky to stumble upon them when we stopped by Ho’okipa Beach to watch the surfers. They come out to rest when it’s sunset. There were about 15 when we were there! I also saw 2 at Napili Beach and 1 at Black Rock.

BEST PLACE TO SEE THE STARS: Haleakela National Park, Maui, HI

starry night

Yes. Those are legit the stars we saw with our own bare naked eyes. Imagine sequins on a dress. It was MESMERIZING. Never have I ever seen ANYTHING like that. I saw Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and even the Milky Way. Be prepared to bring really warm clothes when you come though! And download the “SkyView” app because it helps you locate constellations and planets!

BEST PLACE TO SEE THE SUN RISE: Haleakela National Park, Maui, HI

haleakela

Same place, different time. When the sun rises here, you feel like you’re an angel living in the heavens. You’re literally above the clouds. We’re at elevation 10,000 ft. This is a must do.

MY FAVORITE BEACH FOR SHOOTING “SPORTS ILLUSTRATED” STYLE SWIMSUIT PICS: Napili Beach, Lahaina, Maui, HI

bikini 2

The water was like bathtub water and it was perfect for snorkeling. The waves were small too. Good for me…because I am scared of waves 😛 You can see things as soon as you stick your head in the water (even from standing!).

BEST PLACE TO GO SNORKELING: Makena Beach, Wailea, Maui, HI

Goat-Fish

We found this beach the last day we were here and I think it was one of the best snorkeling experiences we had. TONS of colorful fish, golden sand, clear water, and plenty of neon coral. Although we did not see a turtle here, I think it was only because we were only in there for 10 min! Rushed to take a shower and then to the airport afterwards. My second and third fave places to snorkel were Black Rock and Napili Beach by The Gazebo.

BEST SHAVE ICE PLACE: Ululani’s

shaveice

This is the best shave ice I’ve ever had! (I’m still getting used to to saying “shave ice” instead of “shaved ice.”) The ice was so thin that I couldn’t taste the crystals. It was like powder. All I could taste were the luscious flavors of the fruit syrup. We got macadamia nut ice cream on the bottom too. It was DIVINE.

A MUST DO: Take a pic with a rainbow!

rainbow pic

You’re bound to see a couple rainbows when you’re here! So do what I did. Put on a flower crown and take a pic with it 🙂

BEST YOLO MEAL OF MY TRIP: Fried Spam Musubi from Da Kitchen

fried spam musubi
Can I make a cheap clean eats out of this? Hmm. I don’t know. Not sure if this masterpiece should even be tampered with…

Hope you enjoyed this post! Something I want to remind you of is the importance of living a stress free life. I ate pretty “badly” on this trip, didn’t work out once, and I didn’t gain weight at all. In fact, I think I lost weight. My clothes were looser.

Why?

1. I was moving around all day. Nothing intense…but I was active. Lots of walking and some swimming when I was snorkeling. That’s it!

2. I was RELAXED! When you’re so uptight and worried about work, school, losing weight, or whatever it is that’s controlling your mind, your hormones get all messed up and you don’t function optimally. This means that even if you’re eating right and working out, stress can hinder your weight loss. Lack of sleep also has a negative effect on your body.

So…listen up! Lots of low intensity activity is good! It adds up and makes a difference. Don’t fall into the “go hard or go home” mentality. If you’re up to it, by all means, TRAIN INSANE! But if you’re not feeling super strong, then don’t ditch the workout completely. Every bit counts. Also, don’t get down on yourself if you don’t eat perfectly the whole time. Your body knows how to recover.

Okay well thank you Maui for a magical time! I felt like I detoxed my soul 🙂 And thank you guys for reading.

<3 Cassey

PS – I know those of you who’ve been to Maui are going to say…”You didn’t do Road to Hana!!??” We actually did opposite Road to Hana through the north Shore but that’s a really long and dangerous story for another day 🙂 Next time!

That whole place looks like paradise to me! I’m really glad you can still let go and relax I feel like that’s a skill too that not all fitness people posess anymore… Don’t apologize for not having blogged in a while nobody is blaming you! :))

  20. Jessica says:

HI Cassey! I am so happy to discover you! I am a teenager and am trying to lose a little weight but mainly I just want to be healthier and stay in shape. I try to run, but often find myself making excuses on why I shouldn’t go outside and run. I am not terrible at running but I am also not the best. I was wondering if you could blog/make a video about running? I know that you like to have a variety of videos and thought that this might be something new. If you don’t like that idea I think it would be nice to do a “Get Motivated” video! I really am so happy that I have discovered you and really hope that I can use your advice to get on my journey of being healthier!

  21. Erika says:

You and your sister are so cute and your bodies are looking amazing!! I am going to try to get my booty over to Hawaii in the next 6 months 🙂 So happy to have you back and blogging again! <3

  23. Rosa says:

Hi Cassey, loved seeing these pictures just reminds us all how much of a “real” person you are which makes this fitness journey so much easier. I needed that last part since life has gotten the best of me and I was beating myself up for not working out every single morning and pushing myself because I was just too drained. You really don’t know how you’ve in so many ways save me from my self and my destructive mentality, thank you for all you do and hope you get another vacation Because you definitely deserve it, lots of love <3

  24. Aoife says:

So glad you had an amazing holiday! you deserved it! 😀

  25. Those photos are holidays for my eyes. It has made my day and gave me energy to move on

  26. Linsey W says:

Hey Casey! I was wondering if you could add to this post that turtles and monk seals (as well as humpback wales) are endangered species and it it ILLEGAL to get too close to them (I believe it’s 100 yards). They are also protected under federal law. I’d hate to see someone get too close to one of them and start harassing them or for the person to get a fine for getting too close. (Thank for visiting Hawaii, I wish you came to Oahu (maybe teach a pilaties class there one day? *hint*hint*) I love the the post.

  27. Jackie says:

It is so nice to read you again. I’m so happy you had a good time in Maui with your sister. You needed that rest! it was well deserved! you are so devoted to us, you are always giving us all you have.
thank you for sharing your vacations!
and also, thank you for the last part of your post… I just came back from Japan (vacations too), I walked a lot and did all the workouts of the calendar and despite that, as I ate pretty badly too (lots of yummy crepes haha), I’ve gained some body fat… but that’s ok! thanks to you, I know everything will be back to normal. I’m still workoing out as usual and still love it! Vacations is to relaxed and enjoy! thank you for everything Cassey, you are really the best! <3 Love you

  28. Kristine says:

Thank you for sharing. Vacations are awesome. I need one myself. I’ve been under a lot of stress lately at work. I also workout 6 days a week following your calendar and run every other day and swim in between. I find a little bit of bread or chocolate and my body just blows up. 🙁 I wish I could cheat here and there but I find that doesn’t work for me no matter how active I am. I suppose its the stress like you mentioned. hmmmmm

Happy you got away! You deserve it! You work very hard and I admire you a great deal. 🙂

  29. Laura says:

    Oh Cassie!!

Where do you get your swim wear???!!! I luv it!

  30. Rebecca says:

Thank you for posting this, especially the last part of not being too hard on yourself. I’ve come to a place in my fitness journey where the “go hard or go home” attitude isn’t working for me, I just want to take it easy and not eat 100% the whole time. I have stressed and stressed about this thinking I’d lose the progress I’d made, fall back into bad habits, but you know what? I’ve lost 2kg in the few weeks I’ve made myself relax, that’s more than I’ve lost in a month since I started! So thank you Cassey, for reminding us that we need balance!!

    1. Janice says:

Rebecca, I totally agree with what you are saying. I seem to find myself right now with the “go hard or go home” attitude right now and it can make this fitness journey not fun. We should be having fun with our fitness and not stressing about it. I think Cassey gave some really useful advice. Maybe having a poster with those pointers would help us all 🙂

  31. Leanne says:

Thanks for the end message! Just what I needed to hear since I’m going on vacay soon. Lovely pics!

  32. Cece says:

This looks really hard to do because so much and then really want abs and curves. But hard

  33. Aley says:

    Cassey,

I am so jealous that you got to go to Maui! It is my DREAM to go for a morning run and do a yoga session on the beach in Hawaii. Hope you lived it up!

  34. Ellen says:

    Hi Cassey!
Sorry, just a side note, it probably isn’t wise to post where you saw these seat turtles! Poachers continuously surf the net to find animals and look through geotags so they know where to find and kill these animals.
I hope you read this :OO

  35. Connie says:

Looks like an amazing trip! Love that you balanced your treats by staying active–must find myself there one day.

  36. Toby says:

Maui is one of my favorite places in the world and I get to go there this summer! Love your suggestions. I have only made it to Paia once and it looks like I’ll need to go back to catch some sea turtle action!

  37. Natalie M says:

Cassey, I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to hear your approach to food and exercise. I feel like so many people are so hardcore about it, and forget that ANY form of movement/fitness/exercise is one step closer to a happier, healthier life. Seeing pictures of fitspo and extreme clean diets makes me feel guilty sometimes when I can’t push through a workout, and can even discourage me from doing one sometimes! It’s totally understandable for people who have very extreme goals or are professional athletes and bodybuilders, but at the end of the day, it’s whether you got your body moving and treated it nicely that matters (to the rest of the typical population, at least!).

I hope that you’ll continue to share this message with us throughout your journey! It’s so inspiring <3

    Wishing you the very best,
    Natalie

  38. Allie says:

This looks like such a fun (and delicious!) trip! I’m a little jealous! I have been thinking I need a vacation for a while now, but don’t know if one is actually in the cards for us or not!

  39. Nann says:

Wow Cassey you and Jacqueline look gorgeous and happy 😀 Now I wanna go to Maui.
Btw, I cant access the blogilates network site. Too many redirects 🙁 Wonder what’s up?
    Xx.

  40. Elena says:

Great pictures and great advices for our vacations!… It’s seems you had the best time there!!! So glad that you’re able to recharge your batteries!!!!!

  41. Natalie says:

Cassey! This post is so amazing. You and your sister are so fit. I admire your beautiful pics, especially those where you’re in bikini. Although it took you long to start blogging again, I’m happy that you rested a little. Sometimes we need to take a break from work.
    Thank you!
