Commit to Crossfit?

Commit to Crossfit?

Hmmmm…I know this is totally random…ok maybe not…but I am seriously thinking of starting Crossfit while I am in London. Probably not the most economical decision but I just found out that there’s a Crossfit gym like 30 sec away from my apartment! I found it on my run yesterday, which by the way, was gorgeous! I ran along a little river and I ended up seeing a floating festival!

Pretty huh? See why I like running every time I visit a new city? You get to see everything in fast motion AND you burn calories. I mean seriously. Why doesn’t everyone do it!??? That’s gonna be my travel tip of the century.

Anyway! Crossfit. I’ve heard so much about it and I’ve been soooooo curious. Kinda the same curiosity I had with the bikini competition. I’m scared and I can’t really do pullups but I do hear they do lots of box jumps and I’m pretty good at that…so I think I should be fine…

For those of you who do not know what Crossfit is, it is basically lots of weight lifting, plyometrics, gymnastics, and functional movements done in a timed setting with the goal of beating your personal record each time.

I’m basically writing this blog post to decide whether or not I should commit to 2.5 weeks of crossfit.

Hmm

You know what.

I’m signing up for a 1 month membership.

I already looked. It’s £95 for 14 drop ins.

Okay I’m doing it. I’m doing it!!!

And you know what? I hear that real crossfitters, like crazy religious ones, follow a paleo diet too. And umm, as of right now I will also do that!

I don’t know if I will write up a meal plan but I will do research and give you all the tools you’ll need to devise your own plan. Basically think caveman style and no grains.

Wow ok. I feel a surge of nervous energy running up and down my spine. I’m gonna do this. It’s commitment time. Yes.

I think I will visit Buckingham Palace this weekend and film a Pippa butt workout or a Kate Middleton something something workout for you guys! What do you think? Any other London or Olympic themed workout ideas? Let me know in the comments below!

Love you guys!

<3 Cassey

Please make a video about going paleo! I’ve been thinking about giving it a try and it would be amazing to have your fabulous recipes 😉

  2. Taylor says:

I’m 16 and I do crossfit and I can honesty say it is the best workout you can do. It’s hard and it makes you sweat and you will want to stop but after every workout you will feel AMAZING. When people say its like a fitness cult they aren’t joking haha. Crossfitters are serious about health and fitness

  3. Sarah says:

The Crossfit Challenge sounds awesome but the Paleo Diet eww!! I couldn’t think of anything worse.

  4. Jini says:

Thank you so much Cassey for taking the plunge.=) I’d love to take this journey with you!^^ *hugs* Keep rocking! <3

    Hi Cassey,
I hope you are having a great time in London. I was wondering if you could maybe make a Beach Volleyball Bum video. I struggle with my lower body a lot, and the only thing that has truly helped me work on the area are your videos. Thank you so much for being your awesome self.
    Love,
    Jessi

    Cassie,
My name is Anna and im 18 years old and I live out in Vermont. I was so excited when I just read that you are signing up for a month of crossfit. I started about six months ago and have never been happier about my body, my health, my eating habits, and overall my outlook of fitness. For years and years I have been struggling with being underweight and slight eating disorders. I wanted to gain weight…i wanted to lose weight…and this pattern went up and down for years and evidently completely screwed up my body. I am now 18, 105 pounds and doing crossfit about 5 times a week. I have never felt so passionately about something fitness related. The camaraderie at crossfit is something you will NEVER find at another gym. It has really brought me close to people and its the one hour a day I really look foward to. I just completed my 30 day paleo challenge which as you probably know goes hand in hand with crossfit. I plan to continue eating paleo because after 30 days you realize its a lifestyle not a diet. I have found so much happiness through crossfit. Our team actually finished 18th worldwide at the games this year! Super exciting. Anyway…I hope you have as much fun as I do with crossfit every single day. Enjoy!!!

    <3 Anna

  7. This is very attention-grabbing, You are an excessively skilled blogger. I’ve joined your rss feed and look ahead to in quest of extra of your excellent post. Additionally, I’ve shared your web site in my social networks

  8. Patty says:

Awesome idea! Especially about going paleo. Been doing research and am also starting it as I recover from surgery. I’ll have about a month at home to get used to it.

When I’m all healed I’ll look into cross fit. Hope you are enjoying London!

  9. Morgan says:

Pippa butt! Pippa butt! Pippa butt!! Haha.

You could also do a “London Bridges” workout with all kinds of bridge variations. Just an idea. 🙂

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  10. Jas says:

Yay Cassie! I’ve been doing Crossfit for 2 years and completely love it! Of course it’s not for everyone and there are a few bad trainers out there but isn’t that true for most “exercise regimens”?!?! The community of crossfit is amazing! I hope you have a great time with it! Love your blog too!

  11. Nancy B. says:

NOOOO!!!! don’t get sucked into the crossfit cult!!!!!!! Sorry I’m not a fan of crossfit, I disagree with a lot of their practices, especially their poorly trained “trainers”! A LOT of people get injured doing crossfit (I personally know 4), because their “trainers” pay $1000 to attend a weekend retreat that “certifies” them teach Olympic lifting, among other things that generally require years of expertise. Form is sacrifices for speed, no quality control or legit accreditation, and the WOD (workouts of the day) lacks any periodization or structure.

Ack! Be real careful Cassey, and make sure the local crossfit employes people who have a legit education foundation, I would hate to see you get hurt!.

    1. Jodie says:

I actually got a pretty bad tear in my biceps tendon from doing a Crossfit workout about a year in to my training. It was one of the reasons why I stopped doing their workouts (that and the fact that I got EXTREMELY bulky muscular). It’s really easy to over-do it and hurt yourself because it’s such a competitive environment with a huge focus on improving your rep #’s every time you work out.

It doesn’t hurt to try the program, but it’s sooo easy to get sucked in to that style of exercise because it’s so fun and challenging! With any form of exercise, you need to know when your body has had enough. And when you’re sacrificing form for rep #’s….STOP.

  12. Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wished to say that I have truly enjoyed surfing around your blog posts. After all I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

  13. Crossfit intimidates me so much! Please keep us updated with how it goes 🙂

  14. Samantha says:

Can you do an arm workout? I’d really like to tone my arms a bit. 🙂 Good luck with your new challenge! I believe you can do it, Cassey!

  15. Ahh so exciting!!! I have been crossfitting for over a year and absolutely love it! You will be hooked once you try it! So happy for you and cannot wait to hear how it goes for you 🙂

  16. Marty says:

Yeas, you should totally try crossfit! It looks crazy!!
And I really like the idea of another mealplan.
It was son convenient to know what to buy for two weeks and to be “forced” to cook and try new recipes instead of the usual stuff!!

  17. Laura says:

£95 for 14 sessions?! I balk at paying £30 a month gym fees even if I know I’ll go every day (yep, even if there’s a jacuzzi). That’s nuts! But I suppose London prices will be higher for everything.
You can afford it, though, so I say go for it. Do something different while you’re in a new city! Also, I bet you can do pull-ups!

  18. Aileen says:

Kate Middleton legs and Pippa butt pleaseeee <3

  19. Carina Cristina says:

Crossfit is so much fun and it makes you feel very powerful and accomplished.
I also followed a Paleo diet while doing it. I LOVED how it made me feel, but I hate how it made me look. I’m a very long and slender girl and it made me look bulky. Very bulky. I’ve been trying to slim down for over a year after ending it. My poor calves still aren’t the same and it makes me really sad.

BUT! It is a lot of fun and you really get to push yourself which is awesome! 🙂

  20. If it’s ‘CrossFit London UK’ you’ve signed up to then you’re in great hands. Their trainers are top notch. We interviewed the owner & head coach last month. Great guy – http://youtu.be/udNcQ8DwKlE

  21. Liz says:

Oh my gosh! I agree with the girl that suggested a Harry Potter workout of some kind. That would be so amazing!

  22. Lisa says:

If you don’t do the crossfit class in London, you can always get home adaptable crossfit routines of their website and do them at home or at the gym! I do that a lot since crossfits super expensive. I love it.

  23. Caroline says:

Please please please do a Harry Potter themed workout while in London! I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and you’re my favorite YouTuber so it would be the best combination! <3

  24. Jodie says:

Woo Crossfit! A friend of mine actually co-owns a crossfit gym, and while I was dating him I got really involved in it. The workouts are great! Such a good variety and really challenging, plus there is the bonus of trying to beat your personal bests, so there is a huge sense of achievement when you do. Like POP pilates, we did all of the workouts to songs and incorporated the HIIT methods as well. I have never felt stronger than when I was doing Crossfit.

    >>>HOWEVER<<<< I did get quite bulky. I have a petite frame, but I put on almost 30 pounds of muscle. Especially when I followed the diet. And it wasn't so much lean pilate style muscles, but bulky body builder type muscles.

Awesome workouts, but not the look I was going for. Especially when there is something like pilates (and more specifically your website) that gives me the variety with more aesthetically pleasing results! But have fun!! I'm sure you'll love the experience 🙂

  25. Jeannie says:

Yes! Pippa’s butt workout! I think that we should have a sort of gymnastic pilates workout too, all the the moves could be inspired by gymnastics moves…

    1. Alisha says:

Yes! I agree with both suggestions!

    2. Shelby says:

      Love both of these ideas!

  26. Pallavi says:

Cassseey, please keep me and the community updated on how it changes your body! I’ve been wanting to do it but, one of my girlfriends said it made her “BUTCH” so she stopped, I wasn’t sure if its just her? let me know 🙂 xo!

    1. Jodie says:

I did crossfit for about 1 year, and I got really masculine style muscles too 🙁 Super fun workouts, but not a good look for me…

    2. Carina Cristina says:

It is not just your friend 🙂

  27. Natalie says:

Do it! Do it! I just talked to a friend tonight about starting a paleo challenge next week so this is perfect timing! A meal plan would be awesome and if possible a community support discussion board!

  28. Nessa says:

Cassey I love the idea of a Pippa butt workout, or a Kate legs workout, or a Buckingham Palace workout!
I hope I get to see you in London! I might start hyperventilating if I do 🙂

  29. Mahima says:

LOVE THIS and your SPONTANEITY!!! Good Luck, CASSEY 🙂
Also, I want Pippa’s butt so yes please for the butt workout!
    love,love,love you!!

  30. Nikki says:

OMG Cassey! I was thinking about this just today. I have been wanting to try Cross-Fit and the Paleo Diet…and you just gave me motivation to do so 🙂

  31. Iris says:

You should definitely try it and report back. I started a semi-paleo diet this week (I say semi because even though I read for a couple of weeks what the diet consisted of beforehand), I still sometimes get confused as to what I should and shouldn’t be eating, especially in the mornings because I LOVE my savory breakfast but i don’t want to have eggs every single day.

  32. jocelyn says:

    Way to go CASSEY!!!
You are going to LOVE crossfit and you are going to rock at crossfit!
I request that you do a daily online diary of your crossfit and paleo experience. We would love to go through it with you 🙂
    Keep spreading the joy
    <3

  33. Kendall says:

Yes Cassey- please a Buckingham Palace Pippa butt workout- we would love it: ) Thanks for all your positive energy. I’ve been sick for over a week now and am going thru Blogilates withdrawal- that would be great to come back to.

  34. definitely try crossfit! I’d love to but there isn’t a place offering it near me. it looks like a great workout and pretty fun! go for it!

  35. harsha says:

Oh , about the Crossfit dillema . Just go and sit by a river and place your hand over your heart and breathe for 10 minutes and ask yourself , the answer will come !!

  36. Kayla says:

I do Crossfit!! You are going to love it! It’s the best quick workout you will ever have. Hope you like burpees 🙂

  37. harsha says:

I have an idea !!! Make a total body annihilation!!! video to Adele : Set fire to your “booty” song !!!

  38. Kimmoy says:

I say go for it, but also try to negotiate, see if you can get a discount or barter blog post series for free classes? The worst they can say is no right? Have fun in London! I think it’s pretty cool you’re always open to trying new tthings

  39. Anjali A says:

“Workout tip of the century.” You are hilarious, Cassey Ho!! Bwahahaha! But, yes, there’s NOTHING like running to scout a new neighborhood. Hubs and I do it all the time! Also, can you, after your foray into the world of Crossfit, do a Youtube workout video with Crossfit moves us mommies with little ones who can’t get out of the house can do? Please! Please! Pwetty pwease!! I’m dying to do it, but I just can’t at this point in my life. And you are SO great at bringing all these different styles of exercise in an easy to do home version to us!! PLEASE try and do a homeversionofcrossfit video!! I will be in your debt forever!!

  40. Maureen says:

Crossfit seems kinda fast paced. I ‘m not a turtle but definitely not a rabbit so I would love to try but think its not for me. Your workouts are the best so if you post one I will do it.

  41. Terri says:

London! Make a Duran Duran workout for the old fogies like me. (They’re playing at the Olympics opening ceremony, that counts, right?)

  42. Exciting!! I switched to paleo/crossfit about 9 months ago…my blog has some recipes/experiences or feel free to email me if you wanna chat about transitioning to crossfit/paleo!

  43. Rachel says:

I have a friend who’s a crossfit nut. He loves it! So does his wife and his seven year old daughter (their littlest is only three but I think as soon as she’s old enough, she’ll be into it too). It’s crazy the amount of energy they put into it, but they’re happy with the results. They eat a semi-paleo diet, i think they were full paleo for a time, but i think they became a bit more flexible due to the kids. Hope you enjoy the experience of both the crossfit & the London visit 🙂

  44. Vanessa Vaughn says:

DO IT ! CROSSFIT IS FUN !

  45. Stephanie says:

Bodyrock.tv does crossfit/hiit exercises… they’re amazing and free and for their diet they talk alot about clean eating. Should check them out to see if you like it.

    1. Alisha says:

LOVE bodyrock. I didn’t even notice the crossfit elements because I hadn’t even heard of it until this post.

    2. Samantha says:

I love Body Rock too! It’s great!

  46. Carolina says:

  48. Kelly says:

I would looove any Pippa or Kate workout! Butt or legs would be perfect! Can’t wait to see how this new challenge goes, good luck 🙂

  49. Emily says:

I think it is a great idea. I just learned what it was yesterday and was intruiged myself. But I think you will do an awesome job, and you are dedicated so why not?

  50. Nadia says:

Yay do it! I’m really interested in the paleo diet too, I know a few guys who do this along with the cross fit routine and they are pretty buff and look great! It takes serious dedication though! I’m still getting to grips with eating clean as much as I can and paleo is really a step up from that! Would love to know any tips you come up with to make the transition. 🙂

  51. Rebeca says:

Oh sounds fun! I’ve had the same curiosity towards crossfit kind of 50/50 about trying it, I hope to you update on each of your workout you do there. I would LOVE to see alot of updates on how you’re liking it.
I’v also heard of the paleo diets but I’m not sure I can go without some greek yogurt since its dairy lol.

  52. Johnie says:

OMG DO IT! I’ve been dying to try Cross Fit, would love to see how it goes for you! And duh, Pippa’s butt is out of control! Good luck girl!

  53. Mel says:

  54. Stef B says:

Yay! You’re a great inspiration to try new things in the world of fitness and health. My husband and I have been doing CrossFit for 2 months and Love it!! I think you will do fabulous because SOOOO much of it core strength. When I started, I couldn’t do pull-ups either, but they will help you scale the workouts to your level. Now, I can do pull-ups without a band! Everyone is at different levels but it will always be a challenging and different workout every time! We also started eating Paleo and have really been enjoying the renewed energy levels and fit feeling. Can’t wait for you to share some recipes – you always have great ideas. Have fun!!

  55. Laura says:

You should try it. I think this is the perfect opportunity to try it too because it’s only a couple of weeks. It’s out of my budget but I can’t wait to see what you think. 🙂

  56. Dayna G says:

How long are you staying in London?!

Also, I think it’s a great idea to try new workout routines when you move to a foreign place. I just moved to South Korea, started the Jillian Michaels workouts and *YOUR* workouts as well, and couldn’t feel better. Moving to a foreign country gave me the extra motivational push that I needed to start a new workout.

    Good luck! 🙂

  57. Jane says:

Good luck! I know you can do it , you’re capable of anything Cassey! and you’re fit

  58. Pippa But Workout hahahaha omg yes please! You are hilarious! You should add a Duchess Kate Drop Dead Sexy Legs workout too! Have fun in London, I cannot wait to hear about your CrossFit adventures! xo
