Apple Cinnamon Protein Pancake Recipe

I tried a new protein pancake recipe today! had some apples laying around so decided to make use of them. Also was feeling a little carby, so I wanted to use oatmeal. I searched around on the internet for a while and came across this recipe from a bodybuilding forum. They came out delish, so I am sharing it with you guys!

Mix the following ingredients in a bowl until it makes pancake batter-like consistency:

– 1/4 cup oatmeal

– 1 whole egg

– 3-4 egg whites

– 1 scoop Vanilla protein powder (about 6 tablespoons in 30g of powder)

– half a chopped apple

– a dash of cinnamon

Pour the mixture into a fry pan and cook on medium until one side is lightly browned.
Flip it over until the other side is done.

Calories: 342
Protein: 39g
Carbs: 28g
Fats: 7g

This was great! They stuck together very nicely and I didn’t need to blend anything. Had them later in the day too, cold, but what a fab snack. For those of you asking what you can sub protein powder with, the answer is, if you want to keep the nutritional value the same, I can’t help you there! You can try all kinds of protein powders – like whey, hemp, pea, brown rice etc. but for the recipe you need to use a protein powder.

So basically if you don’t have protein powder, you need a different recipe! This is one I did a year ago. High Protein Yogurt Oatcakes. Recipe here.

I watched a little bit of the FOOD Bites video and got kinda sad. I started to miss Boston and that apartment. It brought me back to the times when I was teaching 12 Pilates classes a week to help pay for rent and utilities. It brought back the sound of the T screeching every time it passed by my street level apartment. I miss it’s hardwood floors and gorgeous windows. Ugh. And how I could walk everywhere. I miss my students too. At Boston Sports Club, Commonwealth Sports Club, Cambridge Athletic Center, VIM Fitness Spa, Tufts, Equinox…you guys all helped shape me as the instructor you see today.

Life definitely changed for me on the East Coast. It was my first corporate “real” job out of college (and my first experience quitting a job!) and also where I think the blog and YouTube really started to grow. When I quit, I had so much more time on my hands that I could film stuff, edit stuff, write, cook, teach! I also had time to grow oGorgeous. I had time to pay attention to my Pilates craft as a teacher and I learned how to be better. Better at connecting with people and training them hard.

Now that I am back in CA, I am working at a handful of clubs again. I really really LOVE all of my students everywhere I go…it is SO HARD leaving. Even leaving for vacation. I hate it. You guys make me smile and you MOTIVATE ME to give you more. I don’t know how to say it or how to express in writing…but I just want you to know you mean a lot to me. My YouTube students, my real life students. You’re helping me live out my passion.

I feel like this could be a whole ‘nother post! Or even a vlog. It’d be so sappy though! Oh! And I start teaching at ClubSport Fremont on Monday! POP Pilates at 5:30PM!! I am really excited to start a new class. But I think I need to stop accepting new classes or else I won’t have time for myself anymore! Boston classes were great, but just TOO MUCH sometimes! Any group exercise instructors out there feel the same way? (Especially the full time instructors?) At a certain point, the classes start to feel like work and I never ever ever want to feel that way. I think my cap is 6 classes a week.

OH! Another thing. Sorry.

So…it must be awards season or something…because after the whole Shorty’s thing, now FITNESS Mag has the 2012 Fitterati Best Healthy Living Blog nomination going on. If you guys like reading my blog or doing the workouts, please let FITNESS know! It’s not really about getting an award, but about letting more people know about our community and everything we do here. Every time I make a video or post a recipe, I want more people looking for healthy living tips to find us! Sometimes I do random google searches like “fitness blogger” or “best healthy recipes” and I end up on weird websites trying to sell me stuff. It’s not easy to find a website where you keep coming back because you totally resonate with the blogger and the community!

I would love you to have your vote 🙂 You don’t need a Twitter or anything to participate, so it is much simpler than last time. Just click on the image below. Or click here.

Anyway, enjoy the 2 pancake recipes. Have a fabbbbbb weekend!!!!

<3 you so very much,

Cassey

Can you substitute something for protein powder? I don’t have any right now but I really want to make these!!

This recipe wasn’t bad, although I think it would’ve turned out better had i used a riper apple. Also, I would maybe blend it next time.

  3. Incredible quest there. What happened after?
    Take care!

    Hey Cassie!
Please come back to Boston soon! I want to take a class so bad! Haha. I mostly workout at home so it would be nice to get out and go to an actual class for once. I’m in Medford so 5 mins from boston and Cambridge is right down the street so I hope you get a chance to get back out here soon!
    XOXO,
    Amy

I am definitely obsessed with pancakes now…I’ve tried sooo many of these recipes! I’m so glad that I got this one to work though. The first time, the batter was super runny and the pancakes turned out more like crepes. The second time around, I figured out what I did wrong (went a little MagicBullet crazy and pulverized the oats that I’m guessing is what thickens the batter) and just hand mixed the batter. I also like to put peanut butter on these occasionally. Yummy!

I wrote a post about it on my blog if anyone is interested: http://bit.ly/1klmrcP

How do you add the apple? I don’t cook much so if it’s implied it’s not clear to me. Do you dice it or something?

This piece of writing will help the internet
viewers for setting up new weblog or even a weblog
    from start to end.

  10. Unquestionably believe that that you said. Your favourite reason appeared to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of.
I say to you, I definitely get irked even as folks think about issues that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest and defined out the whole thing with no need side effect , other folks could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thanks

Wow!! I made these for breakfast and it was the best choice of my day! So fluffy, fulling, tasty! I only used 1 egg and 2 egg whites because I ran out of eggs haha. 😀 But it still turned out just fine! 😉 I ate them with a tiny bit of peach jam. Next time I’ll try it with PB and maybe half a banana! <3 Thanks for the recipe, Cassey! Definitely my fav one since now!

  12. This post gives clear idea in favor of the new visitors of blogging, that really
how to do running a blog.

  13. It’s really very complicated in this full of activity life to listen news on TV, therefore I just use world wide web for that reason, and obtain the latest information.

  14. Emily says:

I’m making these right now with some flax meal!!!!! I’ll Instagram you!!!

  15. Sarah says:

I had to drop everything and make these, or a facsimile of these (I used whole eggs and oat bran) So good! I think even my husband would eat them…!

  16. talia says:

not my favorite but at least they’re healthy! I still love the banana pancakes the most 😀

  17. Tiffany says:

These are great! How awesome to have pancakes on a diet. 🙂 I put honey and natural peanut butter on mine (I need the extra calories!). Thanks for another great recipe!

  18. Charles a says:

I tried this this morning and it was not good by any stretch of the imagination. Apples are a bad idea. And you need to specify which brand and flavor protein you use. It was a learning experience, for that it was good.

  19. Mary says:

    Calories: 342
    Protein: 39g

This is for the whole batter, correct? There was no serving size so I’m guessing this is for the whole amount of batter that is made.

  20. Kai says:

    can these be frozen?

  21. Lina says:

Can I use something else instead of protein powder? :))

  22. Sam says:

Is there anything you can substitute instead of the egg whites? I want to make it tomorrow but don’t have any egg whites??

  23. Omg yum! These look delish, I’m going to have to try this recipe this weekend for sure:)

    Thanks!

  24. Amroe says:

If you whip the egg whites until fluffy it will give the pancakes a little extra fluffiness and give your arms a quick workout.

  25. Jenny says:

I just made these this morning and ate them for breakfast! They were DELICIOUS. I didn’t have an actual apple, so I subbed in some applesauce. And I don’t use protein powder, so I subbed in crushed-to-powder Raisin Bran cereal, without the raisins (I know this sounds weird to put in a pancake, but it actually turned out really good!!) I also added some natural sweetener to taste and topped off the pancakes with some strawberries. Sooooooo good (:

    1. Good ideas for the substitutes:) have you tried quinoa flakes? They might work well too in those recipe and still give you some extra protein.

      1. Jessica says:

I used Quinoa Flakes, worked great! I also used 1/4 c almond milk to give it a bit of a smoother texture. So all in all it came to be about 240 calories and 18 grams of protein. 300 if you use Agave Nectar.

  26. Adrian says:

Just made some and they were so delicious!! Totally worth finally snaggin some protein powder from CVS. Though it was probably sweet enough, I added honey so that it would taste less dry.

  27. Stacia says:

These measurement are for the entire “batter”, correct?
    Calories: 342

  28. kate says:

These recipes always look so good!! But I almost always have CHOCOLATE protein powder on hand not vanilla (i only like vanilla in recipes not on it’s own and always forget to buy it for that purpose)… HOW ABOUT a chocolate-based protein pancake recipe??? I’m thinking maybe with strawberries, or coconut?? Could either be really gross or really delicious.. hmm…
