A lil YOLO ain’t gonna hurt nobody

Hey guys!

I’m currently in Tokyo right now on a layover from Singapore to LA! I just downloaded the WordPress App on my phone in hopes that it can help me blog more frequently while on the go. It’s something I’m REALLY trying to work on!

I used to blog 7x a week a few years ago and now I’m lucky if I get 1 in a week. I think with the expanse of social media, releasing content on several platforms a day has become very taxing. In many ways, IG has become my new mini blog but it’s only because it’s “easier” to write captions and get quick thoughts out. The problem is…the IG follower is not typically a reader type! They’re usually more visual! So I really do want to share my personal thoughts here on the blog as much as possible.

And so far…I’m loving the app!! Currently about 8 minutes into using it FYI.

I’m sitting at the airport trying to sneak in a post before I get on the plane and I think I can do this all from my phone! 👍 Oh look I can use emojis!!!

Anyway, eating clean during travels has ALWAYS been hard for me for many reasons.

  1. It feels like a vacation so I want to eat everything.
  2. I can’t cook so options are limited.
  3. When you’re out with people, it’s hard to limit your diet around temptations.
  4. I nah never be back! So I’ve got to try the local food!

For these reasons and for the reason of truly experiencing life, I’ve officially decided that if I’m traveling I’m not going to be strict with my diet! Boom! Easy as that!

Honestly, if I eat some ice cream for dessert or some extra fried whatevers for appetizers, I’ll deal. My body isn’t stupid. It knows how to bounce back. It’s not like I’m eating fatty, sugary things only for the rest of my life. It’s just the trip! And the thing is – as long as I know that it is MY CHOICE to enjoy, then it is also MY CHOICE to not feel guilty.

If you have a complicated relationship with food, it’s not going to be as easy as I just described above. Trust me, it took me a couple years of trying to break out of “food jail” until I felt freedom eating whatever I wanted. One step at a time.

Remember that you control the food.

The food does not control you.

So anyway, those matcha milkshakes above…WORTH IT!!! But I totally have pimples on my face today – less than 12 hours after I ate that! Haha crazy. My skin reacts fast. But hey, I’m not going to get down on myself for that. I know I’m lactose intolerant. I know dairy makes me break out. But I made the conscious decision to enjoy my shake and I made the conscious decision to not feel bad about it.

My skin will clear up in a few days. No worries 😉

Similarly, when it comes to smoothies and fro-yo, you can keep your smile bright and beautiful outside while you keep them healthy on the inside by following these simple tips to protect your smile.
Slurp your smoothie with a straw. The less time highly pigmented (we mean colorful) foods spend on the surfaces of your teeth, the less time they have to stain them. Using a straw can help minimize contact time with your teeth.
Avoid acidic ingredients. Acidic foods such as lemons and apples can weaken enamel and make it more porous, which can also increase staining and discoloration.
Swish with water after. Brushing too soon after eating or drinking can sometimes rub stains into your teeth. Instead of brushing right away, have a good swish with water, and brush and floss a little later.

    Best,

This is related to feeling guilty, but not in the food sense. Does anyone feel guilty for not working out for a day? I push myself to do PIIT everyday, but once in a while I get home late that night, and just want to relax. I always push myself to get through the workouts anyways because if I take the day off then I feel guilty. I do have one rest day a week, but is it okay to swap that rest day once in a while with another day of the week if I get home late? Is this something I should never do? Thanks!

I really love seeing that even you, our trainer and honestly the strongest person I know and look up to, has feelings like that about food! For some crazy reason I guess I had it implemented into my mind that you didn’t get those temptations. It’s good to know that everyone feels that way and it’s natural. Thanks again Cassey!

My husband and I drove to Dallas for a few days. Our hotel had a microwave and mini fridge, so we packed a cooler of leftovers. I used the hotel’s fitness center everyday and the stairs.
But if we flew, then we would have ate salads or sandwiches most of the time when we ate out.

I stay in airbnbs so I can cook. I like exploring local ingredients as much as I like exploring local cuisine. But when it’s jam packed with work, it can definitely be hard. And yeah, I feel the same way. I’m half way thru a 6 week trip and I had just finished a whole30 before I traveled. I’m getting a ton of cardio in everyday and having clinical pilates sessions 5x a week since last week so I’m ok with eating things are worth it.

I totally agree! Traveling should not be stressful. I naturally like big salads and health finds but if I want a huge cookie or ice cream too then it’s going down!
psshh….I am in Tokyo too! =) All about the matcha!

    Cassey! Thank you for this.
Honestly, I am still having troubles with this type of stuff. I get nervous about going out/parties/traveling, because I don’t want to make ‘unhealthy’ choices, or miss a workout. It’s something that controls me! But, thank YOU for helping me become aware of this. I really have to start weighing my values- like, ‘is a weekend of missed workouts going to make me an unhealthy, not fit person forevermore? Obviously, the answer no. I know that, but I have to listen to myself!
It’s a long journey, but this is a start 🙂 love you!

First, Cassey, thank you for trying to blog more often! I read your blog while I’m at work but can’t access instagram or facebook while there so I appreciate any blog posts to keep me motivated while staring at a wall all day…
Second, I agree with you on food. It’s so hard to be motivated to stay 100% on track when on vacation so I like to remind myself that Balance is Key and, if I have dessert tonight, I’m not going to immediately gain 10 pounds. I’ll just push a little harder in my next workout or go a little longer. You don’t have to beat yourself up – just enjoy food, nourish your body and get some great workouts in!

Although I totally understand that it’s not easy to handle so many platforms, I’m super happy that you’re trying to blog more! I love reading your posts, they always inspire me! I totally agree with you on that topic. I also have to say that my relationship with food is a bit complicated, but I’m working on it and the 28 days reset has already helped me. 🙂

I totally agree with you that It’s not a crime to eat them but along with it we should focus on healthy foods that help us to improve our life. We should know that “You are, what you eat”. Thanks a million for sharing

YES! I agree whole-heartedly! As someone who spent a whole summer basically starving herself and suffering through it because I liked hearing people say how skinny I was, I think that it’s important to remember that food is fuel- and you should not be afraid of it! Sorry if this seems a bit random, the point I’m trying to make is that being healthy is not all green and low carb food- it’s feeling strong and happy!

    1. Lola says:

And your videos really helped me figure that out Cassey, so thank you! <3

Love this! I’m a model so how I eat and workout is pretty important and I’ll be travelling soon (first for work and then a cruise) and I was a bit stressed about food. A little bit of “unhealthy” food will certainly not ruin anything but guilt will. Keep it up with the great posts.

  13. Momma Be Fit says:

Amen! I used to track year-round whether on vacation or not and, you know, it sucked. I missed out on so many memories because I was stressing out about food. “Memories over macros”- enjoy yourself and experience the city!! A few days won’t hurt anything in the long run.

I love that! Memories over Macros!

Thanks Cassey – you’re definitley real. I really like your body shape 🙂 I just recently found your channel and want to try your ‘Beginners 2.0 workout plan’ or I’m going to try and join the ‘May 2017 workout plan’. I’m not sure about that.
I just want to say, that I like how you look like now, much better how you looked like during that bikini-competition you did a few years ago. Now you look happy and healthy and not so skinny. You look toned now, which I really admire. Thats my goal too. I started my Fitness journey at the beginning of 2016 and I lost the weight I wanted to lose and I’m mostly happy with how I look like now. I just want to tone up a little bit more. Oh … I started to babble, sorry, haha.
Back to the topic – I see it like you – eating bad once in a while is ok. No one is going to judge you for that. I think if someone forbids him-/herself to eat any kind of “bad” foods, the chance that, once the temptation gets to big, he/she is going to stuff his/her face with that “bad” stuff.
I found my own solution with stuff like chocolate – I only allow myself to eat it during the weekend (a reasonable amount of course). And while eating out I try to eat the “healthier” recipes. It doesen’t always work, but like you said – it’s not a crime!

There’s a solution for food related pimples – pantothenic acid AKA vitamin B5. It is water soluble so there’s no overdose and anything unneeded just gets flushed out. Me & my family now enjoy pimple free YOLO meals. I take one right after or even during meal so that its not the last taste. B5 helps break down fats that can’t be broken down by our body which otherwise ends up on a break out.

We have been almost pimple free for ~5 years after discovering that. I don’t know why there’s not much noise about preventing acne with B5. Maybe its because it wouldn’t be favora skin care companies

  16. Spent yesterday eating out and definitely didnt have the healtbiest meal ever so this post is definitely reassuring:) I have this perfectionistic personality when it comes to body care and work ethic. But I’m not a machine. I’m only human. thanks so much for being real Casey!
