83rd Oscars Red Carpet Dresses!

83rd Oscars Red Carpet Dresses!

Here’s what I loved and what I hated. Who wore the dress and whose dress wore them?

I loved loved LOVED this Marchesa gown on Halle Barry. One of my favorites of the night. How come she never gets old? I feel like she’s looked like this since I was born. I love nude with sequins. It looks good on everyone because it makes you extremely elegant without being overly flashy (see the others that did this look below). The haphazard arrangement of tulle on the bottom is artistic. Halle’s strapless mermaid gown showed off her perfect hourglass figure – definitely wore the dress.

Little 14 year old Hailee Steinfeld, in Marchesa. You know, I didn’t like her very much after seeing clips from True Grit in her Pocahontas braids and her Amish-looking school girl getup. But she captured my heart last night on the carpet! Turns out she designed this dress and I am all about it! (I designed my own dresses back in middle school and high school for prom.) I love the tea length skirt and the modest neckline. Once again, nude tulle and beads dazzle me. She looked so young, fresh, and perfect! Like a little cupcake. I adore this. Hailee, you wore the dress.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier. Once again very elegant. Same nude/sequins color combo. She looks kind of old with her hair pulled back like that with those huge earrings. She also looks a lot skinnier than I can remember.

The dress EVERYONE is talking about. Mila Kunis wore a lavender chiffon gown with tiered lace detailing and groisgrain ribbon waist from the Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2011 Collection. Good to see someone who doesn’t have fake boobs and still looks ultra sexy showing off her natural figure. Mila, you wore the dress!

Jennifer Hudson in Atelier Versace and 165 carats of Neil Lane diamonds. Girl, you look amazing. That new figure is stunning and I couldn’t stop looking at her waist! She lost 80 lbs for her role as Winnie Mandela and went from a size 16 to a size 6. Whether you’re looking to just tone up or lose a ton of weight, it is all possible. Jennifer’s red dress was plain but super sexy and classy to the max. Jennifer, you wore that dress!

I wasn’t too thrilled about Scarlett Johansson’s gown. She’s wearing a Dolce & Gabbana frock, Anna Hu studs and a ring, and Christian Louboutin’s. It just didn’t wow me at all. And with that messy short hair, just looks like a last minute get-up. She looked good, but it wasn’t Oscar worthy. Sorry Scarlett, but you didn’t wear the dress. But good news is it didn’t wear you either. You were both a couple notches below red carpet ready.

Hilary Swank, in Gucci. She looks very fit and fabulous…but I thought we were done with feathers. Too Black Swan-ish and not very fitting for her overlook look and skin tone. Although both the person and the frock are gorgeous, I don’t think she wore the dress.

Natalie Portman, wearing Rodarte, Jimmy Choo heels, a Roger Vivier clutch, and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. A big winner last night, Natalie took home the Oscar for Best Actress. She looks so romantic and glowing in her deep purple gown. I like the off the shoulder look and the chiffon, what I don’t like are those heels. They look cheap. (I know they’re Jimmy Choo’s, duh.) She should have gone with a nude strappy heel to make it look like she was floating in that gorgeous gown. Instead the criss-cross straps just stick out and make my eyes sore. But I guess if you don’t look down, Natalie…you wore that dress!

Cate Blanchett, in Givenchy and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. I understand that this is couture and I appreciate the detailing and the architectural genius of the design but the dress wears her. What is that oval center at the front? It looks like a picture frame. But you know what, maybe Cate is over looking hot and maybe she’s more into fashion as an art. In this case then, she will agree that the dress wore her but she chose it to be that way.

There you have it guys! The dresses that stood out to me at the Oscars. Oh and another thing that stood out to me…ummm Anne Hathaway and James Franco were the most uncoordinated hosts ever. No chemistry. Their personalities clashed completely. It seemed like Anne was overacting in order to cover for some of James’ awkwardness. Odd. Odd indeed.
