15 Ways to be a Happier Human

15 Ways to be a Happier Human

be happy

1. Appreciate your life.

Be grateful that you get to live today and that you have the power to create change and affect other people. It is a gift to be alive right now. Make the most of it.

2. Choose friends who make you feel good.

…and take yourself far far away from the people who suck the positivity out of you, who don’t make you smile, and who you dread to see. Surround yourself with inspiring people who motivate you to be a better you every day.

3. Keep learning everyday.

Never think that you’re #1 at something. The moment you do is the moment you stop growing.

4. Compliment others.

To be able to see the beauty in other people, and to let them know means that you are confident with yourself.

5. Always look for the solution, not the problem.

There is always an answer. Seek to be a creative problem solver.

6. Laugh!

Laughing makes you feel better and works the abs at the same time. What could be better!?

7. Take a moment to enjoy life, and stop to see how far you’ve come.

Stop going through the motions and actually stop to realize and ENJOY what you’re doing. Embrace each experience you have because you can’t ever come back to it again.

8. Forgive people and stop holding grudges.

Be able to LET GO. Forgive others so that you can move on. Holding on to the past is like holding onto old stuff that has no value and slows you down. Live for moving forward and being better.

9. Keep your promises.

In fact, under-promise and over-deliver. But never ever ever break a promise. Your word, your trust, is the most valuable form of human currency.

10. Live clean. Live honest.

No lying, faking, and being shady about anything. The truth allows you to live a way less complicated life.

11. Love unconditionally.

Give your whole heart. That is the only true way to love.

12. Invest in the people you love.

Believe in others. It can be the difference between someone chasing their dreams or giving up on everything. You can be the catalyst of making their greatest goals happen.

13. Never give up.

Keep going. You will get there. Love the journey.

14. Exercise.

Working out releases endorphins that chemically make you happy.

15. Believe in yourself.

Always know that you are capable and powerful enough to make anything you want to happen, happen. It’s your life. You control it because yes you CAN turn your dreams into reality.

I thought this may brighten up your day! Do these things ring true for you? And is there anything you would like to add to the list? Let me know in the comments below! Hope you’re having a fantastic week!

Thank you so much Cassey for these amazing blog, which really inspired me and hopefully others. Just reading this post makes me happy! Just a quick question, Kayln Nicholson mentioned a name ‘Blogilates’ and she said that was where she got her time lapse water bottle. I want to buy one but I am not sure if this is the website she was talking about. Can you send me a message saying if this is the right website. Thanks in advance, and thank you for making me happier.

Cassey! I was sooooo depressed today, I even thought to give up in all my plans, just because I always think I’m not good enough for this guy or for this circumstance or for this activity 🙁 I just felt tired of keep wandering alone in this freaky world… But with this, I understood I wasn’t felling or being happy because I was too busy in striving it!!!
I won’t give up Cassey, thank you! God bless you

  4. Happiness lies within human. One should scrutinize within himself or herself to achieve the happiness. Doing activities that makes oneself feel better can be elixir for every day happiness as well as making long term goal by analyzing the ambient influencing condition can bring long term happiness.

I definitely need to work on number 5. Sometimes I look for problems and worry just to have something to gnaw on and complain about. It’s something I’ve been working on. There’s always room for improvement.

  18. Joseph Kraszkowski says:

Just HOW does one make this mental switch to do these things? How does one get to that point where the things on the list make sense and seem do-able? That’s the key and no convenient list is going to help you turn that switch on. Something happens FIRST in the brain and then these things make sense. Until then, one is wasting one’s time.

    1. Diane says:

I can’t quite explain this, but it is a choice. You just have to make a decision to have a different outlook. For me, reading uplifting, positive books, quotes & blogs like this reminds me to count my blessings. Keep a gratitude list and find something to write on it every day. Good luck!

    2. Anonymous says:

      Hey Joseph,

I understand where you’re coming from – I struggled with depression for over a year, and I can tell you that when people would refer to happiness as a choice I wanted to slap them, the concept that I was therefore choosing to be depressed really bugged me! But in reflection, in a way they were right. In order to have a happy life, we have to choose that “path”. No, we don’t choose to be happy and not have stresses, but we can choose that one day we want to have happiness again. I think this is what people mean when they say happiness is a choice.
Now though, having almost fully recovered, I can see these happiness tips as steps along that path of happiness I referred to earlier. So no, one cannot make the mental switch to do these things, but we can use these tips to help us realise that we can be happy again.
      All the best,
      Anon.

  29. Samsam says:

I loved this post! It’s so important to do these…they’re actually pretty simple to do! I definitely think that taking time to enjoy life and to acknowledge how far you’ve come is really important. It’s so easy to get caught up in all the muck and grime going on and overlook the great things we’ve done!

I really needed to hear these words today <3

  37. Hi Cassey! Great post, thank you for sharing!

Dance! I would also add:-)! It can really ‘pick you up’. For example, one of the tools I use when I am feeling contracted is putting on a song (like “happy”) and just do a crazy dance in my living room:-)!

Believing in yourself is a truly valuable one. This requires both love and faith, and it is a very powerful thing. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves. One saying inspires me in this sense:

“If I survive this life without dying, I’ll be surprised”- Nasrudin.

For me this means that we are not here to solely survive, because that’s obviously not what we will do. Therefore I believe we are here to live, fully, and love, completely, and learn and develop and grow! For doing this you need to believe in yourself, and in the fact that you have something so valuable to share that only YOU can share!

Much love, Stephanie from Happiness heard your name.

  38. loveorurban says:

This list is spot on! Especially #2 & 4 for me.
If you are surrounded by a negative environment, you can be sure it will show in all aspects of your life. It doesn’t matter how healthy you are or how far you can run, negative influences will keep you down. I recently learned the true value of friendship and how important it is to surround yourself with people that appreciate you for who you are.

  39. Lia says:

This is so inspiring! Thank you cassey. 🙂

  40. Jacqueline says:

This was so great 😉 I follow these rules everyday and if anything, I think it will always keep me healthy and young at heart!
Just for fun, I would like to add #16-Listening to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams (How can you not smile without thinking about dancing Despicable Me minions! Maybe we can get a cardio dance video for this??? Please please please!!)! Or just listening to good, happy inspirational music in general! Music can be uplifting too and most of the inspirational music I love incorporates all these values you put on your list so I appreciate it even more! I really am doing my best to continue on the #AprilAbs workout and so far I’m at 8 almost 9 signatures! I really hope I can hit my personal goals and continue to get stronger. Thank you Cassey!! <3

  41. Lizy says:

These just put a big smile on my face and made me extremely motivated. Thanks for that, Cassey! These are definitely rules to live by. <3

  42. Liz says:

Wow, I love this more than I can even say! I think my favorite is “compliment others”…it’s such a little, simple thing that many times I either do without thinking or I don’t think to do! It brightens others’ days, and it really does show that you’re confident with yourself. Spreadin’ the love, right? (:

  43. Absolute great start on this list – attitude of Gratitude!
I start the day with 10 things I’m grateful and why
every day, before I talk to all of my personal trainers,
chiropractors, & nutritionists…as it makes me show up
as the best version of myself : )

    Keep Rockin It,
    David

  44. Alyssa says:

Thank you Cassey for this amazing post! I have been struggling with drama and life a lot lately and every word of that post gave me hope for change! You are true inspiration!

  45. Mel says:

I was in a really bad place before I found your website. Your motivational messages and bubbly, happy character has really helped me find out more about who I want to become.
Keep up the great work you are fab

  46. Celine says:

Thank you so much Cassey! As a college student, I tend to get caught up with all the academic work that sometimes, I forget to take care of my own mental, physical and emotional health. So this list was the perfect, motivational pick-me-up for the day. You’re the best, Cassey! <3

  47. Jennie Nguyen says:

Thank you so much for posting this. I am printing this and hanging it in my bathroom to see every day. This week has been particularly rough in the exercise habit, but this has been very inspiring!

  51. s6milerun says:

Thank you so much for this post today Cassey. There are times when the really important relationships I have are very hard and frustrating – but not hurtful and harmful. I’m talking about relationships I have with my family, co-workers, besties, and even my own husband. I am such an emotional person but realize I have to be hardened to words from time to time. Over the years, I have learned that people make mistakes in their actions, and sometimes forgiveness is just too hard for me, even for the little, stupid things. Thank you for creating a space here that I can gravitate towards to lift my spirits. You are a true gift to humanity.

  52. Gigi says:

    Hey Cassey,

Just wanted to say a BIG thank you, again you have helped me recover from an injury (this is not the first time). You’re wonderful and your work outs are effective. Keep up the great work, you’re a legend and we appreciate all you do for us. xx

  53. Jessica says:

Yes to all. Thanks for reaffirming what I have learned through a lot of “suck”

  54. 1. Go with the flow. If you allow yourself to be completely absorbed by whatever you are doing in this moment, the mind has a way of intently focusing on purely that, setting your mind free from the jungle of harmful thoughts that is robbing you of this moment. So ladies: try to flow and focus.

    2. Exercise was another suggestion and I agree Lions Head did me wonders after my last article. The endorphin boost of exercise relieves anxiety and helps you sleep better.

    3. My little niece once told me she is too upset to talk, she needed to take a nap first. Little did she know willingly but more so intuitively, that taking a nap and getting enough sleep allows your hippocampus to rest, which makes recalling happy memories easier.

    4. Shopping and spending money were also mentioned as a possible escape to visit happiness by mostly the females at the table, but once I challenged the short lived joy of a new pair of heels the argument did not have so much weight anymore. However some felt that when they spent their money wisely it did bring them happiness. The key however was on experiences and not material goods.

    5. Friendships and family ties can bring great joy so cherish and nurture them. Connecting to others is a fundamental part of being happy. This reminded me of something mentioned in the movie ‘Into the Wild’; the lead character mentions that happiness is only real when it is shared and he was so right when he wrote that in his diary.

    From the blog http://greatbodyskin.com/chasing-happiness-6-tips-on-how-to-visit-this-place-more-often/

  55. Eva says:

Cassey, you never fail to inspire and motivate me. Just reading this post made me feel happier already 🙂

Thank you Cassey!! Reading this while dreading this long day for college made me really appreciate life and what I already have. It made my day feel so much better and made me think more positive about my life 🙂 Thank you!! 😀

  57. Ugh, I needed to see this so badly today. Thanks Cassey 🙂

  58. Tanya says:

This is why I enjoy seeing your emails popping on my inbox! You always inspire me and boost my happiness. Today wasn’t that great, I had some difficulties, but after reading this post I feel great and cheerful again. Thank you! 🙂

  59. Enid says:

I identify myself!! I do this!!! Wow!!

  60. Yasmeen says:

I was going very lazy these days n was not feeling good from inside but the correct time ur motivational email arrived in my inbox n feel so good n happy that want to follow all these rules to be happy n make others happy….Thanks Cassey..

  61. Spot on! Good tips to remember. I especially love Live Clean, Live Honest. Honesty is so important not only for our own happiness, but the happiness of others (by how we affect them). Thanks for the post. 🙂

  62. Olivia says:

Thank you Cassey for sending this to me. It really gave me good advice on the friend factor because I have this person who always wants to tear me apart but I don’t let her I just walk away:)

  63. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been practising these sorts of things more recently and I definitely feel more contented and more ‘me’. It’s a nice feeling.

The only thing I would say is on point 8… sometimes you just can’t forgive for whatever reason. I would say, don’t feel that you have to forgive someone who has truly wronged you, but do have accept this and move on so it doesn’t drag you down 🙂

  64. Kris says:

    Love it
    Thanks Casey 🙂

  65. Jessica says:

    You are so motivotinal 🙂

  66. Jess says:

Ah Cassey! This was just what I need to see pop up in my inbox today. Thank you.

  67. Weronika says:

Thank you cassey !!! this is so motivotinal 🙂

  68. Melanie says:

I try to live by the things on this list everyday but sadly I always end up in a vicious cycle and end up the same way I am. Unhappy, un-motivated, let down and even depressed. There is something causing my ways to stay. I’m not sure if it’s me or the things around me. But at least I can follow #13. Never give up. I wont rest until I can have self-love and be who I am sepost to be.

    1. Mary says:

Sounds like you have an idea of what you’re many to be like that you think you’re not living up to. But your already who you’re supposed to be simply by washing up every morning. You already like what you like, dislike what you don’t, you have a heart and a brain and unique attributes that make you different and special from anyone else. It’s nice to have goals in self improvement because it gives us something to arrive for but just remember even if you don’t meet any of those goals and even if you fail sometimes you are already you. You are already special and you are already beautiful just as you are. There has never been and will never be another you.
I hope you have a good day today, keep your chin up, your worth it <3

      1. Melanie says:

Thank You! I hope that I will eventually find the answers I’ m looking for. There’s just so much confusion and I know that I’m not living to my full potential. I could be so much happier and better. I just hope that I can be at peace one day and not feel like ‘I need to change this, I need to change that about myself’ and just be me.

  69. Theresa says:

One more thing to add to your list brought to you by Love Wins…

Meditation: Finding peace, contentment, and simplicity in your life is vital for happiness 🙂

    Great article Cassey :)))

  70. Kathy says:

Cassey, how in this world could you know what I need right now?
I am going through such a tough time cause my boyfriend became unsure about his feelings. He is gentle, caring, gives me hugs and kisses a lot, cuddles with me and still says he is unsure. I don’t like this whole situation. I don’t even know what I can do. I thought everything was fine when he travelled to another city on Monday and the call on Monday was super. Yesterday, however, he said, that he is unsure because he thinks he doesn’t miss me enough. Today he called and sounded like everything is okay. He didn’t say anything about love, feelings or called me a nickname. He doesn’t really say what he feels anymore since we had a big problem in March and nearly broke up, but figured out that we have feelings for each other still and want to work on our relationship.
I felt so bad at night. Felt bad today and sick and couldn’t really eat… THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for this blog!!!! Guys, I’m sorry to post this stuff here, but I am so thankful that Cassey posted this and it means a lot to me and I need to learn that my life doesn’t depend on my boyfriend and love only. I’m scared and I don’t want to lose him because I really love him. I want a life with him but it’s up to him. I told him that he has to get sure about his feelings. I hope everything works out fine.
I know many things are my fault because I am quite unrelaxed and I can’t really relax (since last summer to be honest) and I turn to explode on some days just caused by one wrong word. I need to work on my temper, my positivity and yeah… my self-esteem.
Again sorry guys. I’m just overwhelmed by feelings right now. can’t even tell which ones.
keep going and good luck with aprilabs to all of you!!!

    1. Mary says:

No matter how things go you are loved and cared about. You are beautiful and special and it’s all going to work out how it’s meant to. You just have to trust that if this chapter of your life closes then something else is coming that is even better for you <3

  71. Mylene says:

Thank you for this post. Totally made my day! 🙂 <3

  72. Shi says:

You have no idea how much I needed something like this right now in my life, so thank you Cassey!

  73. This is some great positivity for the day. So often we focus on the negative, but sometimes shifting our thoughts is all we need to do. There is so much good out there to capture our brainpower, we just have to make ourselves to do it. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  74. Scuttle says:

Love it. Reminds me of AA ;D

    1. Sarah says:

      😀

  75. Laney says:

Lately I’ve been pretty down and stressed, so this made me feel a lot Better! Thanks! =)

  76. Ilove the part about surrounding yourself with friends <3 I have friends that would put me down saying that I looked better before or that why am I working out and when i lost weight they told me I looked too skinny when I actually wasnt they were overweight and jealous of my accomplishments this caused me to gain most of my weight back and now I am fighting harder than ever to lose weight again and show my past friends that did not support me that I will be fit without their help and I have you cassey <3 loveyou

  77. Sarah says:

This is perfect <3 I especially agree with #10. I've noticed that I've been prone to exaggerating to the point of outright lying lately, something which I've never done before in my life, and I'm determined to cut the habit! The rush of telling a crazy story may seem worth it in the moment, but it truthfully hangs over me in a worry that people will find out that it's not true. I'm determined to only speak the truth going forward!

  78. Jeannine Cotogn. says:

Love!!!! I can’t post or pin ?? Takes me to abs workout.

  79. Jeannine Cotogn. says:

Love!!!! I can’t post or pin?

  80. Whitney says:

I really like the comment about grudges. I once read a quote that said “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” It only affects you and in a very negative way. I’m a firm believer in forgiveness and letting bygones be bygones. Thanks for these great reminders Cassey! 🙂

    1. Monika says:

This quote is really inspiring. I’ve only started to learn how to forgive recently but it is a very handy quality 🙂

    2. Kathleen says:

      Great quote Whitney! 🙂

  81. Janine says:

This was the second thing i read this morning and it was such an inspiration for the day and helped set it on an more positive note. Thanks!!!!

  82. Great post! Reminders we all need everyday.

  83. Dorothy says:

I like the list a lot and I agree with the majority of it but I would change “exercise” to “move” -honestly, no one /needs/ to do squats or planks or to do hiit workouts to be healthy. if you enjoy it – great! so do I! but it’s not necessary. However, everyone enjoys /some/ sort of movement, like dancing, riding a bike, playing games or going for a walk and hanging out with your friends and family. and for some people that’s enough. 🙂

  84. Victoria says:

Nice one coach! Im ready to finish this week 😉 Cassey Ho & The Lean Machines best personal trainers in the world! So much knowledge, inspiration, and kick ass motivation! You’re all going to help me stick with it even if it starts as pain, I’ll grow to love it 🙂

  85. Tracy says:

This is just what I needed today. I will print this and keep it as a reminder when I am having one of those moments. Thank you for inspiring me to be better and happier! 🙂

  86. Jenna says:

    Hey cassie !
Great list! About a week ago I had a knee injury which prevented me from running my first half marathon on Saturday. I was so down and mad. I then found your videos and started to focus on healing my knee while getting some killer abs and sexy arms. You have been a great motivation and I love getting inspirational emails. Thanks 🙂

    1. Jenna says:

      **opps ** Cassey

  87. Beautifully put! I love lists like this and can never have too many reminders to be thankful for my life. <3 Happy wednesday!

  88. Jennifer says:

Learn to and fall in love with yourself

  89. Jenna says:

Printing this off to put up in my office!!

    1. Janine says:

      Same here!

  90. It’s really hard to find myself nowadays…I’ll keep this as a reminder 🙂

    1. Mary says:

I know sometimes we get caught up in how we seem, of we’re portraying what’s really in the heart of us or if we even know what that is but you’re never really lost. Even if your likes change, your feelings change and your circumstances change (which they will that’s part of life!) You’re still you. You’re growing and changing all the time but you’re still uniquely you. No one could be better at being you than you can be. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what you want right now, it’ll come into focus on time. For now just remember that you special. You are worth more than you know and are always you. You’re just a you that’s growing and transitioning through life. But even if nothing is changing around you and your just becoming aware that you’re not the same as you used to be, that’s ok! You’re Linda like no one else can be!
      -have a great day

  91. Ashley says:

I agree Cassey! This post was said beautifully and rings deeply with the values I uphold and reminds me of my favorite motivational quotes “Be the change you wish to see in the world” Gandhi & “Be Here Now” Ram Dass. I think your 18 ways, are a great outline/example for living out these values! Thank you!

    1. Ashley says:

      *15 ways 🙂

  92. Anna says:

Thank you so much, Cassey! I agree with every single point. I had a bad day yesterday, so this was just what I needed to start out this one positively. Thank you for making me smile! 🙂

  93. Emily says:

Thank you for this, Cassey! It truly seems as though too many people these days are the bitter, grudge-holding, negative Nanceys who stick to the opposite of this list. It’s good to remember these things daily because it’s truly amazing how much better your life is when you do.

I had to reread this today because I had a rough day for the most part, came home, and pigged out. As I did, I envisioned all of the hard work I had done today go down the tube and I had that little voice in my head saying “You’re going to get fat again” and “You’ll never be as pretty as so and so”. It even had the audacity to compare me to my ex’s girlfriend.
Now I’m bloated and debating about whether or not to try that Special K diet my cousin has told me about while I do these workouts and see if I get any results.
I’m trying to learn how to love myself, but sometimes it’s hard when I’ve struggled with my weight ever since I was in fourth grade.

Love this post Cassey! I agree with all of them and for the last year I’ve been learning to live by this ‘rules’ and I’m happier than I’ve ever been! It’s not always the easiest way to go, but it sure is the most rewarding!

The one that I specially want to hold onto and encourage everyone to do too is #10. I’ve experienced the worst years of my life for being trapped in an endless lie (and other stuff that has nothing to do with being honest) and since I’ve got rid of that heavy weight off my shoulders… GOSH! I even sleep better! I’m not going into that lying stuff ever again! It’s not worth it! Doesn’t matter if it’s a small lie or a big lie, good things come from being honest, always, and you’ll feel better!

Thank you so much Cassey. Somehow you get me to smile and feel good every time you post something, how you do this haha 🙂 Anyway, super motivating and going to keep this in mind. xxx

Thank you so much Cassey. It’s so true. And I have been discovering the truth of point 14 in those days, I started over with the April workout plan (after doing nothing for my body for far too long) and it feels soo good that I never ever want to stop exercising regularly. I also think about how to get W-LAN (and access to Blogilates APP) during our honeymoon in August (I want to enjoy the time with my future husband and the food, but I also want to stick to the daily workout routine!)

Thank you again for being such an inspiration and doing so much for the Blogilates Community 🙂

    Love,
    Katie
