Stretching myself too thin… | 54 of 90

This week I am beginning to feel like I am stretched too thin.

Too many projects going on, can’t find the right people to help expand the team, so I’m taking on a lot myself, and here I am staying up past 12 AM every night again when my #1 vow was to go to bed earlier and make sleep a priority. Clearly, I am not respecting my goals. And you know what? I know what the problem is. It’s me. I knowingly am doing this to myself.

Here are the issues…

I like having a bunch of projects going on at once.

I like being ridiculously productive.

I like not just achieving goals, but surpassing them.

Like I’ve said before, I link my self worth to my success. It’s something that has been ingrained in me since childhood. I’ve been taught that “okay” is absolutely not acceptable, and that if you’re not being challenged, then you could be doing so much more.

It’s like I live in this constant state of “how-can-you-keep-pushing-myself-more-than-you-did-last-time?” It’s good, but it’s terrible all at once! I never get a break because I don’t let myself have a break. I need to find a way to slow down…except…ugh…I don’t know how!

Anyway, I gotta get through this week. Gotta make it to the end of Friday for our big shoot, and then I will breathe a little this weekend. Except…now I need to handmake the family costumes for a Halloween party next Friday. You see what I mean? Coulda just bought a costume, but no. I decided to hand sew family costumes. WHY. WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF!!????

On a separate note, I went to the clinic today and got all results back from my blood tests. There is A LOT to go through and I have a ton of reading material to go through before I will blog about this. I might just tackle one test result in one blog post, so we can spread this out.

Did I find some surprising things? Yes. Did I find some things I knew already? Yes. I am happy to say that there are areas where I can make some immediate improvements in my health. I’ll keep you posted on what those are in the upcoming blog posts! Excited to share everything with you guys!

Yesterday’s Recap:

My Fit Journal entry. I’ve been trying to sleep in more, so now I am doing my workouts after work. I don’t really like doing that – but I’m trying to prioritize sleep so that’s the trade off for now, until I find a way to get to bed earlier.

BREAKFAST:

100% carbs, 0% fat, 0% protein

80 calories

When we got into work, the team gave me and Sam some roses to celebrate our 1 year anniversary!!! It was so sweet!!! The roses were chosen to match the color of our wedding flowers!

LUNCH:

25% carbs, 53% fat, 22% protein

730 calories

For lunch, I had my fave ahi tuna salad from Tender Greens! I literally order the same thing every single time. Anyone else have a “staple” at a particular restaurant that they never change?

Post lunch I had some strawberries that were disappointingly bland. It’s almost as if we are out of berry season or something because all of my berries lately have seen sub par!!! Except…I just looked up berry season timelines and raspberries and strawberries are supposed to be good until the end of fall…soooooo not sure what’s up.

DINNER:

24% carbs, 45% fat, 31% protein

571 calories

We ate dinner at the office because life was cray, but we treated ourselves to some poke! YUM! I got a poke salad with salon and albacore! I also added some tamago or “sweet egg” along with edamame, serrano peppers, onions, and sprouts on top of my spring greens. On top, I got spicy mayo and house sauce. DELISH!

POST DINNER DRINK:

9% carbs, 56% fat, 35% protein

110 calories

Post din, I made myself a cup of hot coconut milk mixed with collagen matcha powder at home. Good news is that it tasted amazing, bad news is that I am officially 100% out of my favorite collagen matcha drink mix…and this was the last drink of all time.

SO SAD!!!!!

Anyway, I came in at 27% carbs (100g), 48% fat carbs (79g), and 25% protein (94g protein) and 1,491 calories.

Okay. I am literally falling asleep right now. Gotta go take a shower and brush my teeth. SEE YOU TOMORROW!!!!

Ahh so cool that the roses matched the colors of your wedding’s flowers, it’s a nice detail. I hope life gets better work wise and that you at least feel less overwhelmed with time

Hey Cassey ! When you drink matcha in the evening or before bed, can you fall asleep easily ? I can’t cause of the high caffeine content of matcha !

Love this blog post Casey!! I can totally relate to your situation. Lately my life has been a constant cycle of staying up late than waking up early and running hard all day. I feel like I have no free time and I get burnt out quickly. But I find what helps me is scheduling out everything in my day to be more intentional about my time and where I spend it.

I resonate so much with your honesty here. I got married back on August 31, and had a complete mental and physical breakdown the week of the wedding because of how much I overdid it with the wedding planning and grad school and my regular life responsibilities from January until the wedding. I ended up not even really being able to enjoy my wedding because of how sick I felt all week and the day of. But it is so hard to not continually push yourself when you have that perfectionism in your nature! I hope you plan to post more of how you want to course correct to better stick to your goals, I’m sure all of us fellow perfectionists could further benefit from your honesty!

  5. How big is the team at the moment?? How sweet it is to have a buddy buddy work culture. Certainly hope that is in the cards for me when I land my dream job!

I totally can relate to how you feel. I take a moment and honestly ask myself, “what would be so bad if I took a break? Is my self care not a priority?” More often than not my answer allows me to step back to reality and realize I am human and that I am doing just fine! I don’t need to do a million things to feel worthy. Although I do feel that way, I have to remind myself. I also take a moment and hug my husband and baby when I get overwhelmed. So hug Sam and sir george when you feel you are being spread to thin and it will remind you that as long as you Are there for them then that is all that matters ❤️ I hope you get more breaks more often because you deserve it. We can wait a little longer for any of that amazing content you want to show us because we know you work hard for your popsters 🙂

Yes, I am going to go kiss Sam and cuddle Sir George now!

Which brand of Matcha drink do you buy? Your hair looks gorgeous!!! 🤩

    1. blogilates says:

It’s discontinued now! So I need to find a new source…

      1. Liz says:

Try the vital proteins matcha collagen! It’s not sweet (just matcha, collagen and coconut milk powder, I believe). It tastes great with coconut milk! I drank it iced throughout the summer.

Cassie, you are such a radiant soul! I can SOOO relate to the perfectionism struggle. I’ll tell you what I’m learning now: you will never arrive at a place where you feel like you can pull back. You have to make the decision to pull back anyway, even though it feels wrong or impossible or lazy or like you’re “settling”. I pushed myself too hard for too long for these same reasons you mention, and it has led to severe burnout that has cost me my energy physically, mentally, emotionally, and creatively. I’m in a season of rebuilding now, but it’s taking so long just to get back to being able to create again or be around ppl or go places. Don’t make the same mistake I did!! If you set boundaries for yourself and make rest a priority (and I don’t just mean sleep), it will protect your creativity and renew your energy so you can continue to enjoy life from a place of balance and sustainable strength. Be well, friend!!

    1. blogilates says:

You’re right! I need to pull back before I destroy myself!!

I am currently work not feeling well because me taking one day off for myself caused some anger that wasn’t my fault. I covered my butt, but people are always looking for someone to blame. I totally feel the stretching myself too thin! Have you tried the Shine app? I have found it’s nice to take a few minutes everyday and meditate on my thoughts.

  11. Clare Starrs says:

The gifts of imperfection by Brene Brown talks about thinking your self worth is based on your success! it’s a type of perfectionism. It really helped me! I do the same thing. If you haven’t already read it, I recommend it or at least the chapter on perfectionism. Its a short book -100ish pages and the chapter on perfectionism is like 5 pages.
she says that one thing that can help us is to realize that we are enough as soon as we wake up each morning. and that anything we do after that is extra. But you are worthy just because you exist. and she also gives practical tips on how to combat perfectionism. having your selfworth linked to other things

      1. Cara says:

She has some Ted talks and now the Netflix bit if you want to watch while stretching or cooking etc. 🙂

  12. Brenda says:

I found myself in your shoes. I am a perfectionist ,too. You need to scale back. Otherwise your health will suffer. I learned this the hard way. Go on your honeymoon and relax. Pick two or three (max) projects to work on. No more. When you are old (like me) you will realize family and having a life outside of work is what is important. I speak this in love. Praying for you and Sam.

    1. blogilates says:

      You are so right.

    2. Diana says:

So true. Family and health are the two most important things imo.

There is a matcha collagen by jadeleafmatcha if you wanted to give it a shot!

  14. Natasamartina says:

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I really wish you focused more on your awesome workout videos, this is why I fell in love with your channel and energy and this is what I keep coming back for. Not your merchandise, funny videos, wedding photos, collabs or merchandise. Don’t get me wrong, all this is fun and good, but I feel like you put so much energy into it while most people follow you because they want to work out with you, because you’re a great instructor and motivator. 🙂 So pretty pretty please, more workouts, less side stuff!

    1. Grace says:

Definitely agree with Natasamartina! The 90-day journey blogs are fun because we get to see you as a real person who’s always trying to improve herself, and the workout videos and calendars are what draw so many of us in! I totally get not wanting to limit yourself to just one piece of the fitness business (as a fellow perfectionist, I know the urge to Surpass All the Goals waaaaay too well) but remember that you built this community from a small foundation. You’re allowed to scale back or reschedule some things if you can’t find the right people to join the team!

    2. lex says:

This is who Cassey is ! She is silly, fun, creative and into doing many different things. If you don’t like it, move along lol

      1. addie780 says:

I agree lol, it’s not fair to want to box Cassey into one category when she can branch out and excel at so many other endeavors. Her *many* videos are all on YouTube to enjoy; I suggest a video challenge, maybe do every 1 of her videos from the very first one and see how far you get? I’ve done this, it’s fun!
