Do One Thing That Scares You + My Hiking Workout
Do One Thing That Scares You + My Hiking Workout
This week’s challenge is to do one thing that scares the heck outta you! Ok, well on a scale of 1-10, do a 5+. Everyone’s spectrum will be different but don’t go easy on yourself. You have 7 days to do it. So let me know what it is and if you need any encouragement. I believe in you!
Yesterday I embarked on a day long hike that really wasn’t supposed to be a hike AT ALL.
The sun was shining sooooo beautifully so I ditched my scheduled indoor gym routine for something outdoorsy. I went to Mission Peak in Fremont to film a challenge video and your Backless Dress Workout. I wasn’t really supposed to go hiking, but once I kept ascending the mountain, I like, couldn’t stop. It was weird.
You know what else was weird? The cows. At one point a calf started charging at me. I was so scared…and all the other hikers just looked at me and laughed as I was trying to see how I could dodge it. Turns out it was running to its mommy across the trail. OMG…
The hike ended up being 4 miles with a 2100 foot elevation change. It was really tough. Especially with my tripod, DSLR, and mic in my bag. I did not have hiking shoes either! Just my purple Nikes. I read about the hike before I went, but really didn’t think I was gonna do it. Everyone was saying how difficult it was, but I was like, ya right I am such a gym freak it should be fine. Today my butt and legs are so super sore!!!! And lemme tell you, it was a REALLY good cardio workout. My heart was pumping constantly!!!
You can see the view of the Bay Area as you ascend the mountain. Today it wasn’t so clear down below, but I hear that usually you can see San Francisco and San Jose from here!
Once I got to the top, I had to take a pic with this totem pole type thing. I don’t know what it is or what it’s history is but everyone was taking pics, so I had to too of course 😛
Took me a couple hours to get up, so I made sure to take a moment to enjoy the scenery before going down again. Ha, what a crazy day! I went hiking…by myself! I don’t even really like hikes, but there was something inside me that was saying that I HAD TO FINISH the hike once I got on the trail. I filmed at a halfway point, so I was already kinda like, k, that was the whole point of the trip. Let’s go. But my inner cheerleader and coach was saying no. So I listened!
I also just made a Blogilates Google Plus fan page. I’ve been avoiding it like the plague (another fan page!!?? really!!???) but after changing my facebook fan page to Timeline, I am missing the more visual look and feel of the old one. Google Plus also seems to be more YouTube friendly. So if you have Google Plus, please connect with me over there too! Should have some great new features for our community. Here’s the link.
So tell me, what will you do this week that scares you? And do you like hiking?

As an austrian, this looks pretty familiar to me;) i do hiking every summer for about a week, and i´m doing really long ones, like 7 hours, and as you say, it is a crazy workout!:)
I have recently started running and after seeing this I decided to challenge myself and run three miles in under thirty minutes. I have never ran three miles and I am not even sure if I have ever ran a ten minute mile, so this was scary for me.
I can proudly say that I just ran the three miles in a little under thirty minutes! I am so excited!
Thank you for the inspiration that I needed!
Well, first I wanted to ignore that challenge (little scaredy-cat!) but then I decided to do it and so I ended up reciting a poem in front of some friends. I really enjoy poems but I am afraid of reciting them because it gives me a deep feeling of embarassment.
After I finished they all were quite surprised and amazed. Wow.
Thanks for that inspiration!
you’re welcome!
I just did it! I went to an interview for a scholarship, although it was something I agreed to do before this challenge and something I was asked to do I think it still counts because I am absolutely horrified of being interviewed, talking in front of a small group, anything like that. The funny thing is that I actually love public speaking and used to do all kinds of debate, acting, choir, dance all that so I have no problem being in front of big groups up on a stage or something but when its just me and one or two other people in a small room asking me questions for some reason I totally freak out. Hope that counts!
Today I almost offered to conduct my women’s chorus at school, but someone got the guts to go up before me. Now that I’ve read this I’m trying to think of something else I should take my chance with! Hmmm.. By the way I love hiking in the mountains, only last time I did it my dog almost ran straight into an angry rattlesnake !!!
Good job! Mission Peak hike is a great workout.
