What’s up!? Update on life.

What’s up!? Update on life.

Well first of all! I got all of the nasty orange Pro Tan off of my skin! I was exfoliating and scrubbing like a madwoman all Friday night! I was in the bathtub for like 3 hours. It was so not fun, but thank goodness I can wear camis again! I’ve been hiding in long sleeved tops and pants all week long after the bikini comp.

This morning I filmed the first video in a series of Bikini Blaster workouts to come! It was so gorgeous outside in the Bay today…and I found a new location! How pretty is this platform right on top of a hill overlooking the water?

I asked you guys on facebook what moves you wanted in your first Bikini video and well of course you said burpees!!!! Thanks guys. You’re in for it. BIG TIME. This video is a crazy HIIT video to blast off our series this summer. I’m so excited for you to do it!!! It’s been a while since I’ve uploaded a cardio video so I made sure to plan an extra tough one.

And you know why else I am excited? This video is gonna have such awesome videography and sound!! Because I am working with my new friend and camera guy David who was such a pleasure to team up with!

I can’t wait to show you guys the final product. You POPsters are in for a treat for sure. Toning up and melting fat in cinema-quality HD? I gotcha covered ;P

After the shoot, I fueled up with 2 whole eggs, shiitake mushrooms, jalapenos (I’m swapping my sriracha hot sauce this week because I feel like it) and a fresh strawberry parfait! Since the competition diet is over, I can have fruit again. I am so so so so so happy and satisfied. I love fruit. I missed my strawberries and mangoes. For the comp, I had to omit fruits from my regular clean diet because of the carbs and sugars they contain. I mean, it’s all healthy, don’t get me wrong and start cutting fruit from you diet, it was just what I had to do for a short period of time to slim down quick. I also started to have dairy again. (That’s my non fat plain greek yogurt from FAGE.) That was omitted because apparently it makes your skin appear thicker which in turn does not allow all of your muscle definition to show through. These are all manipulations that work short term!

After I ate, I decided to go out and lay by the pool at my gym. It felt so good just to RELAX after a crazy week. I mean, the blog totally died this week due to server changes, which gave me so much stress…I accidentally deleted like 50 products from shopblogilates.com and spent 4am-7am re-uploading pictures and descriptions that took months to accumulate…it was time to just do nothing.

Afterwards I did my own circuit training workout and tried out the whole more reps/lighter weights til failure concept which I got from Get Fit Guy today. He said that no matter if you are lifting heavy to failure or lifting light to failure…as long as you are lifting to failure, you can still build muscle. Light weights will just take more repetitions. Totally makes sense to me.

I started out heavy and then went light til I died. For example, I would do bicep curls x 15 with a 30 lb bar and then dropset and switch to a 20 lb bar for another 2-3 min nonstop. I basically was finishing up whole songs per exercise, instead of counting. I hate counting. Then I did the same for overhead shoulder presses, tricep dips with weights on my quads, and upright rows. I repeated the routine 3x over. Then I did Call Me Maybe Squats with a 50 lb bar on my back to make sure I was keeping my booty in check!

I hope you’ve done this video already!!!! If not, click play. NOW.

Next week I will be in LA again! I feel like I go there once a month. Anyway, I am super excited to be filming a collaboration with Valerie Waters! Do you guys know who she is? She a totalllllll Hollywood celeb trainer! OMG, I have been following her for years and I totally use her Valslides (gliding discs) at the gym! We will be doing a Valslides ab video together – should be fun! Here’s a taste of Val…

I talked to her for the first time on Friday and we got to coordinate outfits. Haha. She says she will most likely wear blue or purple because she doesn’t look too good in yellow or pink. I was like, girl, no probzzzz!!! I love pink!!!!! So yeah, I think I will be wearing some of the warmer tones, but I have yet to choose my outfit!  I wonder what I shoud wear…I mean I have like NO ACTIVEWEAR.

Just kidding 😛

So yeah, that is what’s going on for next week!!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you fabulous mommies out there making everyone’s lives brighter and happier daily! And say Happy Mother’s Day to your mom for me too. I am taking my mom to Pamper Me Fabulous in SF where I will be teaching 2 live POP Pilates classes. I will also get to meet 3 of our POPsters there who won the ticket giveaway! Really excited for pampering and oh, of course, the swag bag and the goodies inside…hahaha…who doesn’t love free stuff!!???

Alright well hope you’re not bored with my life updates! I just feel like I need to do these once in a while to keep you guys in tune with what I am doing! Cassey you are an animal!
I love it and you say all the right things during the workout to keep me going, I feel like I’m doing the workout actually with you because every time I laugh out of pain or tell you how crazy you are you say almost right after something perfect to go along. Thanks for the awesomely hard workouts and it’s great to do them along with you. 🙂

You are so adorable Cassey, I love all the workout videos

  4. I am in a desperate search for information about looooooong plateaus. There are articles everywhere about busting through short plateaus, but I’m talking about yeeeears-long ones when you’re already doing everything right. I work out more than anyone I know and I’m still a bit overweight (noticeably so). I also have a TON more dietary restraint than anyone I know. Can you help?

Thank you for sharing your lift to failure circuit! If you had asked me if I could do 60+ reps of these moves, I would have said no, but I put on some music and pushed through. Thank you for showing me what I can do!!! (Let’s see if I can lift my arms tomorrow…eating this recovery meal is kinda tricky ; )

You are so amazing! I’m on my period right now and I don’t feel very awesome, so I was thinking if you could film some exercises that are great for those days? For better mood, less pain and nauseous? Thanks for everything and stay happy and healthy ! You’re my inspiration. <3

I love what you’re wearing! And I’m happy for you to include fruits and dairy again! I’ve got a pretty strict diet because of many food intolerances I have (since birth, so I’m used to it). I know how hard it is to keep your diet interesting without many ‘staple’ foods!

It did make me love baking and cooking (lot’s of allergy friendly recipes on my blog for whomever is interested + many more to come!: eatandgetmoving.wordpress.com)

Oh I’ve said this before but your squad challenge is AMAZING! I do this 3 times a week because I love how my legs feel after doing this 😉

Make a DVD please! I thought you mentioned somewhere that you were making one, could you just do a little update (if you haven’t already) to say if you are or not. I’m so curious! I love your workouts and would lovvvveee to have a full length DVD.

    who makes your cami?

  10. SaneFitness says:

Oh Cassey-I’m so sorry your trainer had you cut out so much good stuff from your competition diet and add so much cardio. There ARE trainers-VERY successful trainers, who don’t make you do insane amounts of cardio or cut out healthy carbs. Their clients consistently place in the top 3 in physique competitions and they don’t have to try to survive on protein alone for weeks on end.

Oh dear. This is going to be another crazy town vid. So I know you’re super fit right now but please don’t forget us lil beginners!!! 🙂 I am not quite strong enough to do a lot of the recent videos (i.e. brokenhearted ab challenge, sounded like a lot of fun but the body just won’t do it… yet) and there are only 2 beginner vids. I would love love love it if there was another beginner vid, maybe focussing on arm / wrist strength? My arms give out a lot when I try to plank / side plank / pushup. Thank you >.< !

  13. Sabrina says:

Does pilates count as strength training? Like, instead of lifting weights, can I gain muscle by doing pilates? Because I don’t have any weights at home and my mum doesn’t want to fork out for a gym membership “/

  14. Sabrina says:

Hey Cassey, I have a question for you 🙂 You know you always tell us to exhale on the difficult part of the move, and then inhale on the other parts, why? Like, does it even make a difference? Surely as long as you’re breathing, it won’t matter whether you’re inhaling or exhaling on specific parts of a move?

  15. Emma says:

Love your life updates! Glad to know things are going well. 🙂

  16. Naomi says:

    Hey Casey,

Looking forward to your new video. HIIT is my favourite type of cardio!

Anyway I just wanted to comment on the as many reps till failure about lifting lighter. Technically to build muscle mass in the best way possible is to do about 7 to 12 reps at the heaviest you can. This is the techniques body builders such as Jamie Eason use. Although when I say body builder, most people automatically assume a manly women. But this is so wrong. She is still very feminine.
    This image shows you how many reps you should be doing for strength/ muscle mass/ endurance. From what you said you want to be focussing on muscle mass. All of these should be at the heaviest you can go. I would say 5 sets of those max strength reps;
    http://imgur.com/dpbpK

    Also I have written about lifting on my blog a LOT, this is one of the first blog posts I made but there are a few more focussed on lifting and its results;
    http://prettystronglittlelady.wordpress.com/2012/01/31/get-that-sexy-lean-body-you-always-wanted/

Also if you want to increase you strength to get better results you could use strong lifts or starting strength, both brilliant programmes. To see the best results you need to be lifting heavy at those reps.

Anyway awesome job on the bikini competition. Felt very proud for you! It isn’t easy getting up on stage in front of everyone in a bikini to be judged, I am sure!

    xx

Since you said about burning questions… Once you said you’ve tried many types of diets in your past. You could write a post in which you summarize those diets and add your point of view to the ones you tried. You know, GI, paleo, vegetarian, raw food diet, dukan, food separation diet, … I don’t even know how many of those exist 🙂 just informative and why they (don’t) work, things you need to pay attention at, etc. I’m personally interested in paleo the most. Thanks 🙂
