Maintaining, gaining, or losing weight after the 90 days?

Hey guys!

I am currently writing you from Vietnam! I am in a bus (with wifi) on the way to go see my grandparents and my family in the southern part of the country. I have 3 hours to spare, so time to blog!

Many of you have been wondering if I’ve been able to maintain my weight since the end of the 90 day journey. And the answer is – YES! But with fluidity. I’ve lost weight, maintained, and gained – but all within healthy bounds.

Here’s the thing you guys.

The reason why my 90 day journey was successful was because I allowed for flexibility. I learned that I didn’t need to be crazy restrictive with eliminating entire food groups. In the end, it was about not overeating. Simple as that. Logging everything I ate was key.

I’m currently on vacation right now and obviously logging is not easy. Everything I am eating is not being made by me, so I have no idea what’s actually in it. I can only make educated guesses and do the best I can!

Yesterday, I decided I wanted to go hard and try out a highly rated matcha cafe in Ho Chi Minh City called Japanit. Most people were ordering one dessert to share…Sam and I being the Americans that we are, ordered THREE desserts to share! Hahaha.

We got a matcha cheesecake, a matcha crepe cake, and a matcha milkshake boba thing topped with matcha ice cream, corn flakes and a sweet butter wafer. I would love to tell you that this was the best thing I have ever had in my life, but unfortunately, it was meh. SAD TIMES!!!

Look guys – life is fluid, so I like to apply the same philosophy to my food and my workouts. Being too strict will make you break, and will make you want to binge. Being flexible gives you the power to add or subtract a little here or there and not feel bad if something doesn’t go as planned. Why? CUZ YOU’RE EXPERIMENTING!

You’ve got to LISTEN to the signals your body is giving you as you head towards your goals. Remember, absolutely NO JOURNEY goes in a straight line. Ups, downs, and even plateaus are necessary. This is life. This is how it works.

Now, let’s have a look at how I’ve been eating Cassey-style on my trip so far:

This is grilled pork over a bed of salad with peanuts and a side of pickled carrots and daikon. That’s a side of fish sauce. Normally those comes with fried egg rolls and vermicelli noodles, but I omitted that. Good news is that everything still tasted amazing!

These are rice paper rolls stuffed with lettuce, carrots, and beef. I also took out the vermicelli noodles in these.

What’s Vietnam without pho!!?? I ordered Vietnamese beef noodle soup and subbed the noodles for bean sprouts. It was pho-nomenal!!!

I’m a few days into my trip now and will soon be eating grandma’s home cookin’! Excited to see everyone, but I literally do not think they will understand what I am saying AT ALL. My Vietnamese is so bad – it’s like worse than toddler level.

Oh and one more thing before I get off this bus.

Thursday December 5th at 8 AM PST, the new Constellation Collection drops on popflexactive.com!

A little sneak peek for you from my sketch book.

Omg, your journey is so inspiring to me. In April 2020 i started after i was furloughed from work, i had gained about 20lbs. I have always been an overweight person. I have done fittness journeys before and over the years my weight has been in a consistent state of flux. So i decided this would be year that i focus on my overall health and well-being . I started journaling my eating on My Fittness PAL and I downloaded the FITON App , where i found you as my trainer for the first time. I hadn’t seen your blog before but i have always loved the way pilates made me feel. Your workouts quickly became my favorites, completely all that you had available on the FITON app!! I could see how your body was changing, as you added new workouts to the App. This inspired me to go harder. I recently downloaded your app And have been following along with December’s boot camp. I am down 19 pounds from when I started in April!! I am at the same weight that I was this time last year(2919), the difference is I am a much healthier person now. I am still 20 pounds over my desired BMI but I for the first in my life I can see the light at then end of the tunnel. Thank you for sharing and inspiring, its meant alot to me and has kept me going.
    P.S.
Since i started December’s workout calander, i haven’t been this sore in months, i can literally feel my body changing

I’m really struggling in my journey. I recently graduated as a nurse and work 3 12hr shifts per week. Sleep and time are two things I don’t have those days. I eat very healthy, but I struggle to get 4 workouts done every week. I used to workout 6 days a week and do a lot of running. What would you suggest to help stay in the progress zone and not go stagnant.

I think I’ll buy this for myself as a push present since I am expecting my first baby this Fall! I am really motivated to succeed at breastfeeding and lose the extra weight after baby is born and this will be a great tracker.

Hi Cassey, thank you so much for sharing your ideas on food, fitness and life in general with us. Vietnam seems to be amazing – I will definetely put on my bucket list as a top destination for my sabbatical in three years. Just love your easy-going but grounded philosophy. Here´s my heartfelt wish to you: Never let any nasty and rude criticism get you down. Just remember that there are so many people all around this globe who really appreciate your work and personality. Best wishes from Germany! 🙂

    Hey 🙂
I saw your video about this journey and I loved how informative you were!
    q. As you added more carbs into your die on that journey, what types of carbs? Purely veg, ffruit, beans etc and did you allow youself to eat starches and breads?
Keep up the great work !

Hey! I have been following you for a while now. I adore your workouts and fitness positivity. Please can I ask, during these 90 days, did you do keto? I’m interested in what you did during the 90s days to get there. 😊🌹

  11. Bazzi says:

Hiii, first thing, I would like to tell you that you are sooo beautiful <3 and I also have some question, would you give somewhere some recipes and food that you have been eating during you jurney? Love you so much!

  12. lilly78 says:

hi, I think you are a very beautiful girl and very stubborn, so congratulations for the results you achieve consistently. if you feel better with your body, surely you also gain in self-esteem and serenity, but I recommend you, never let yourself be influenced too much by the weight of the balance. on the contrary, in certain periods I am underweight and this still worsens the quality of my life, even for sleeping, I helped myself with this: http: //bit.ly/2Sw5dCH, promotes sleep correctly and helps burn fat, without having to worry that I ate “too much” or too little .. I will continue to follow you!

  13. Rita says:

Hi! Thanks for this nice post, it was interesting to see what you ate. Having a dessert that turns out to be “meh” is my greatest fear – hey, can I get a calorie refund? 😛
I think some of the people here really interpret your messages in a weird way – even though we get limited information in these blog posts after all.
I’d omit some of the stuff, like the noodles, knowing that I’ve eaten some desserts (even though they’re healthy, they can still contain whatever as you said it, not to mention extra calories) and let’s not forget about how grandmas love to stuff you with everything they have. 😀
So being moderate in advance is definitely a good thing imo.

  14. Sam says:

First you say you don’t need to eliminate food groups, then you’re eating pho without rice noodles… while on vacation. I wish I could understand you, but I really don’t get your message. I just see someone with the same problems as me, and I’m aware that I struggle with an eating disorder and body image issues. Still do your exercise calendars though. Thanks for continuing to put those out.

    1. Katie says:

Yeah exactly! Also agree with Denise’s comment below

    2. Victoria says:

Eliminating an entire food group means never eating that food group. That’s not what she did. She had already had a lot of dessert and was being smart and eating in moderation. That’s not important for maintaining your weight.

      1. Victoria says:

I meant that IS important for eating in moderation.

  15. Lady-J says:

Looking forward to a new blog/post. I know your busy, I mean it is the holiday season. Just know your missed. 😊

  16. Laura says:

Bummed… I needed a break from wrapping presents and was hoping to snack and catch up on some blog posts that I missed… and there are none. 🙁

I hope you enjoy your trip. As another first generation American, I can relate. Luckily, my grandparents were bilingual… but they always used to test my language skills. My mom used to get in trouble with her parents for not teaching me Afrikaans. She definitely has lost some of her language skills from assimilating to American culture back in the 80s.

Hope you enjoy your trip and blog lots later to catch us up on everything!

  17. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You’re my idol.

  18. Sally says:

Happy holidays!! Thank you for sharing 🙂

  19. Denise says:

It’s great that you’re feeling more confident than ever and it shows through the screen! Although it seems like you could never be comfortable in your skin if you didn’t look the way you do now. So in that sense, you didn’t really like your body before. I also noticed that you have a lot of models of different sizes which means that you think they look fine with that physique, but would never be comfortable if you looked like that. I guess the good thing is that since weight controls your happiness, it’s easy to be happy since you control your weight. Also if you just control your portions, then you don’t necessarily need to take out the vermicelli noodles in the pho and rolls. Some carbs won’t hurt. Anyway, good luck and hope you’ll continue to be happy!

    1. Ames says:

I’m unapologetic about this comment. You’re being passive aggressive here. There is really no need to imply or try to guess or assume how she feels or does. Your comment is very insensitive and it’s super insensitive when people say this kind of things, trying to appear holier than thou but at the same time trying to take a jibe at a person. Hope you get rid of the toxicity from your life.

    2. Mira says:

Yeah, the skinnier she is the happier she is. That’s why she was never this happy before because she has never been this skinny since the bikini competition

    3. DIANA HUGHES says:

Is it really about how she looks at a certain weight or how she FEELS at a certain weight? Not everything is about looks. Real health is about how you feel and what your body is able to do. Maybe she feels her best physically at a certain weight. Some people don’t feel as good when they are carrying extra weight. Just a thought.

      1. mbali3samsalt says:

I agree. The looks may be important to an extent but I recall that she said movement makes her happy and I can imagine that if she is able to do more or feel good physically it makes her happy.

    4. QxVico says:

Wow, so toxic. This is the same as judging someone for being more comfortable at a higher weight. I hope your self esteem is through the roof now that you’ve made this comment.

  20. jessnguyen says:

  30. Adira says:

Thank you for reminding me about being flexible on our own personal journey. During the past few weeks, I have been feeling disappointed in myself because I haven’t been able to maintain certain goals that I set for myself. I couldn’t figure out what my problem was until I read this post. Yes, I need to allow for flexibility, to listen to my body, and to keep moving forward and seeing the successes, no matter how big or small, along the way.

  31. Laura says:

I tought after “90 day jiurney” I will not be interested for reading your blog. But I love it, I miss it, I come back again and again. 😂

  32. Ruth Novales says:

Oh so fun! Have a great time reconnecting with family! And that’s great practical wisdom you shared in this blog. May everyone who reads it take it to heart. I wholeheartedly agree that we should be flexible with the way we eat because I noticed that our bodies go through seasons. So, we need to be mindful of our body’s nutrition needs and cravings as it goes through seasons and changes. Definitely not static! Thank you for all the inspiration!
