26+ Hours Traveling, Bloated Feet & I’m in AUSTRALIA!

26+ Hours Traveling, Bloated Feet & I’m in AUSTRALIA!

Well guys! I made it. I am FINALLY in Australia! This trip started out like a crazy mess! First I thought I had lost my passport and didn’t think I’d make this trip. Turns out someone decided to place my passport in a “safer place” so that I wouldn’t lose it. Yea, no point if that person doesn’t remember where they put it!!!

Then once I was at SFO, our plane to New Zealand didn’t leave til 3 hours AFTER the scheduled departure time. Once in the air though, I fell asleep and when  woke up, there were only 3 hrs left to Auckland! So cool since the first leg is a 13 hr flight!

When we got off I noticed that my feet could no longer fit in my shoes. I was like whhhaaa?? Pregnant feet? They looked bloated and were spilling over my shoes. It felt really weird but I thought I was seeing things. But then Jackelyn said that her tennis shoes felt tighter and she had “cankles”. Ha, I told her it’d go way since we’d be on the ground for a couple hours til our next flight.

I am sad that we didn’t get to breathe the air in NZ but  I did see it from the sky. Looked so beautiful. Wish we were there for more than just a layover. Since our orig. flight was delayed everything went downhill from there. Detour flights, lost baggage etc etc. But we kept a smile, was nice to everyone who helped us, because we knew that in the end it would all be ok.

When we reached our detour flight to Sydney, we ran into a POP Pilates fan!

This is Cynthia! She saw me and was like “Are you the Pilates Girl?!?!?!?!” in her cute Australian accent. I love love love meeting posters because you guys always get to see me, but I never get to see you.

Anyway, when we did our third flight from Sydney to Cairns…I noticed that my feet were about to explode. You have no idea how intrigued I was by the swelling phenomenon. I’ve never seen or heard anything it before. I kept pushing at my feet and they kept bouncing back. SO WEIRD! It’s called Edema.

It’s basically a symptom that occurs when excess fluid builds up in the feet due to lack of muscle usage in the feet and legs. I just looked it up now. Wish I knew beforehand!!!

So anyway, right when my sister and I landed in Cairns, we ran 4 miles along the beach. To destress and detox. Then we walked the city. Super cute. I will be going to Lorna Jane tomorrow to check out what clothes I will be wearing in the first POP Pilates DVD! Then we have to go to the rainforest! We will be going Great Barrier Reef later this week! More pics for sure.

K my eyes are shutting as I am typing this…my time zone clock is so confused. But I should go to bed now. It’s 1:42 am here.

Before I leave though, check out a few things!!

1. MizzFit,my good friend and fitness fashion extraordinaire did an interview on me, my bags, and pilates!!! Check it here.

2. If you’re interested, here’s a fun lil video I did for some fitness magazines in hopes of getting a gig as a writer for them.  Not really sure how they will take it, but whatever! It was fun to make this. Enjoy! A lil sneak peek into the day in the life of…me!

PS: Will be uploading challenge video later today!!!!! Watch for it!!!!

Maybe this is weird, that i’m still here in 2015???? but i am 14 years old and I have cankles, it is really annoying. In summer I wear jeans to cover them, and if i wear shorts i feel really uncomfortable???? I really hate my legs… Does workouts help?or not.
    Please help me
    Xx

  2. Spot on with this write-up, I seriously believe
that this amazing site needs much more attention.
I’ll probably be returning to read more, thanks for the info!

I had swollen feet when I was pregnant, and which would worsen when flying. The way I coped with it was to stay hydrated, stay active, wear compression socks while flying, and go to the pool often (my favorite). The water in the pool is like a big compression sock that pushes all that excess water to your bladder. After swimming, I’d pee a LOT and my feet would be back to normal.

Hi Cassey 🙂 I always have bloated feet and legs after a long trip on a plane. There are some pills you can take after your trip so that you lose all that water that makes your feet so big. The only thing you need to know is that you’re going to pee ALL THE TIME for the rest of the day, but it’s okay then because you can actually wear shoes again. You can also wear some special socks to avoid this, I have a friend who always does that because she tends to have bloated feet too when she’s on a plane. Be carefull because it sometimes can be dangerous to have edema… But I’m sure you’ll be safe. Drink tons of water and it will go away faster… but since you’re super healthy (my role model !), I’m sure you do that already.
Well, hugs from France (BONJOUR !) and I wish you to have the best trip ever in Australia, you’re so lucky. Thank you for all the things you do for us, for the “community” you created.

    LOOOOOVED your video 🙂
I always take my shoes and rings off when I’m flying on a plane, other wise I feel like my extremities are going to fall off.

How do I make my legs (thighs, butt, side legs, everywhere!) super TIGHT I feel that even at a thin weight and running a lot my legs still felt big and giggly….in all your videos your legs look so tight like they don’t giggle AT ALL! I SO WANT THAT! Help!

Hey Cassey! So I know this comment doesn’t have to do with this post, but, I am really in a pickle! I have been doing the Jillian Michael’s Making the Cut diet and exercise and I have read great great things about it…(it’s to lose those stubborn last 10-15 lbs!) She has you take a test to determine what percentage of food you need to eat depending on “oxidizers”..? so I’m 40% carb 30% protein 30%fat….my problem though really is that I am so addicted to POP PILATES that I don’t want to do her workouts AND I wanted to know if eating with those percentages that I supposedly need are truly the most effective way to lose weight? eating 4x a day…..my MAIN question though along with my little questions/ramble is this: do I need to eat a certain way for my body type or the way my body processes food like the 40 30 30 thing? or is mostly protein the key like you say I think..?

I forget sometimes that nursing knowledge is not knowledge that eveyone knows…Edema swelling in the lower extremities or upper extremities due to pooling of fluid…also must watch for calf swelling, calf pain, and redness in calf….not using your legs and letting the blood pool in the bottom causes lack of circulation which can cause the blood to form a blockage in the vein which is then considered a DVT deep vein thrombosis….if you can;t sleep with your legs up on a plane its soooo important to get up at least every 2-3 hours and walk around to get the blood moving in your legs

    Hey Cassey,

I know this is a little off topic from your blog post, but I was wondering on what your opinion on the Tabata method is. I was thinking about trying it out for softball conditioning (first time I’m actually trying out for a sport). I just wanted to know if it was something you’d recommend.
