Yesterday I had the absolute honor of spending the day with my long time idol…Ana Caban. I started doing her DVD when I was 16 years old (thanks to my good friend Sue who got me the gift) and I am still CANNOT believe we got to work out together. It was a dream come true!

We met at Equinox West Hollywood when I was down there in January doing a trunk show for my oGorgeous bags. When I saw her name on the sched, I was like….uhhh yeah right. But when I looked in the group ex room and saw her hair and her posture, I was like OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS. THAT IS ANA CABAN.

So I made it a point to introduce myself to her. I was totally fangirling!!! My heart was beating so fast when I was able to catch her ask she walked out of the studio, but thank goodness I said hi, because here we are today – friends! Ana inspired me to become a Pilates instructor and I am forever thankful to Sue who bought be that DVD. Hahaha. Weird how things come full circle!

After we shot the videos, we went shopping at Lululemon. How appropriate right?? Hahaha. She helped me pick out this white top that I will be wearing today in my Livestrongwoman shoot. (Will be instagramming and tweeting pics throughout the day so make sure to follow @Blogilates to stay updated!)

Ana is just as beautiful and nice as she is on screen. Thank you Ana for inspiring me to be the best Pilates instructor I can be.

    I had so much fun doing this video it definitely made me smile to see how happy you were to not only meet your idol but to have a pilates session with her as well! I liked this video, it stretched everything in my body but it (surprisingly) didn’t burn any of my muscles which I know it should’ve. So anyways, I’m up to Day 3 in the Beginners’ Workout Calendar and I look forward to every single video 🙂
    My idol and inspiration would have to be Ariana Grande and the reason is very simple: she made me feel beautiful and she made me feel like it was okay to be myself. She’s also one of the main reasons why I’m taking a healthier approach. She inspired me in so many ways. I look forward to Day 4! Thank you Cassey!

    my idol is definitely YOU,Cassey!! When I get upset or lonely,you always pick me up.I still remember that I found you by accident on youtube.I was having a fever while doing the “Total Body Sculpt Workout”. After the 10mins exercise,I felt much better.That was the first time you saved me 🙂 There were still many stories to be told.Anyway I hope one day we can meet as you meet your idol ! Love you <3

    My idol would definitely be this Jpop singer named Michishige Sayumi. I used to dislike her a lot, but then I realized how she struggles to keep up with the other girls in the group and has to do a lot of vocal training. She’s such a hardworking girl and she’s very brave, sweet, and funny. I love her so much.

    Hi Cassey!

    Awesome interview with Ana Caban!! I have loved Ana and her videos forever. I love her voice (so soothing) and the way she explains each exercise (very through – I no longer need to look at the screen during some workouts). I stumbled upon her videos while looking for a way to supplement my home workouts when I could not make it to the pilates studio I was attending in 2002. I still have a couple of her videos (some on VHS that I need to update to DVD). And how wonderful for you that you were able to meet your inspiration for your current vocation. I am also trying to figure out how to quickly and effectively strengthen my core following abdominal surgery 10 months ago. So, between your videos and Ana’s videos I should be covered. I just feel like I am starting from zero. Very frustrating! Thanks for sharing you time spent with Ana. I’ll be following her on Twitter.

    Hi Cassey,

    thanks for sharing that interview, it was really interesting, especially the part about why we have to suck the belly button in. Now I have a question, though. I’ve done the same mistake as the girl mentioned by Ana before I started doing pilates. I did crunches without sucking it in and now my abs stick out :/. I’ve been doing pilates for quite a while now (~4 months) and really pay a lot of attention to sucking the belly button in, but I’m not sure if my stomach got flatter yet. Do you have any tips for me? Or do you think it will get better when I just keep doing pilates?

    As for your question: my idol at the moment is you 🙂 Doing your videos every day and reading your blog really inspired me to pay more attention to my body and live a healthier life. Thanks a lot for that 🙂

      DIET DIET DIET. Cut out the starchy carbs and the sugars as much as you can! Then do cardio.

    I’ve been trying to find information about getting certified in pilates. I’m currently in Glasgow, UK, and I can’t seem to find one place that in the region, whose website doesn’t look like a scam…
    Can you give me any tips as to what I should be looking for? Where did you get your training and how long did it take you? Was it expensive?

  12. Totally cliche to say, but my fitness idol is definitely Jillian Michaels. She’s all about eating naturally, accepting and loving yourself, but always striving to be better.

    It’s awesome that you were able to meet your idol! I can tell you two had a lot of fun.
