So a little about me. You can read this or just watch the videos above!

BACKGROUND:

Hello! My name is Cassey Ho and I am a certified fitness instructor, creator of POP Pilates, the designer of oGorgeous Bags, and a lover of all things healthy. I am so happy that I get to spend my time teaching people how to live to their best potential all over the world thanks to YouTube and this blog. Here’s my story :)

I graduated with an honors degree in Biology from Whittier College in 2009 but decided not to pursue my parent’s predestined path for me in medicine. While in school, I started teaching Pilates as a sophomore at a small studio down the street from our campus. Right then and there, instructing became one of the most satisfying parts of my life. (I am certified by NESTA and Balanced Body University for mat and reformer.) Since then I’ve worked at numerous gyms and currently am teaching POP Pilates at Equinox West LA. You should come by and take a class! Here’s the sched.

Senior year, I launched oGorgeous when I couldn’t find a yoga bag that was stylish enough or big enough to fit my mat and gym things in. My first design was the Beverly Bowtie yoga bag, complete with tons of pockets, satin lining, gold chain straps, and a glam bow of course. Super girly, it attracted the attention of my students. Orders started to roll in and the next set of designs were drawn.

After working a bit in corporate America for a fashion retail company in buying, I realized that my passion for design and entrepreneurship could no longer be a “side thing”. It was around this time too that one of my biggest dreams came true…the Pleated Pocket Sparkle yoga bag was featured in SHAPE Magazine and on the Wendy Williams Show!

I remember running to Target after getting a text from my sister saying that her friend thought she saw my bag in the magazine. I can see myself so clearly right now flipping madly through SHAPE. My heart pounding. My fingers shaking. Was it true? When I saw the picture, I melted onto the linoleum floor and cried. It was an amazing feeling.

So I quit my job.

POP Pilates, YOUTUBE & BLOGGING

I first got interested in Pilates when I was 16 and about to enter a pageant. I was looking for a fun way to tone up when I saw an infomercial on TV with Mari Winsor showing the audience some core tightening moves…it was so intriguing. I begged my parents to buy the DVD set for me. When they said yes, I was overjoyed. I started doing Pilates religiously!  Not only did I end up winning that pageant, Mari inspired me to get certified sophomore year of college. To this date, I’ve been doing Pilates for 10 years and teaching for 6.5 years.

I came up with the idea for POP Pilates as I was teaching classes at the gym because I loved the music on the radio and I wanted to give Pilates a little boost in energy. The reaction was positive, my students loved it, and I’ve been teaching a more upbeat style of Pilates ever since!!

My first POP Pilates video was made after I graduated college and before I moved out to the East Coast…it was more of a farewell thing for my Pilates students in CA. I didn’t make very many videos back when I was working because I didn’t have time. But after I quit, I started YouTubing and blogging religiously. When things started to pick up, I moved back to CA and focused on running oGorgeous and making more workouts for my POPsters.

And guess what? I eventually got to meet Mari Winsor and thank her for inspiring me to teach Pilates. I sounded like a lunatic when I saw her at the BeFit studios in Hollywood before our taping of “Fit at Any Age.” I just had to let her know how much I appreciated her! See episode here.

Let me tell you, it’s hard work but it’s the most satisfying work in the world to me. I don’t care that I don’t sleep until 3am in the morning everyday. My job is my passion and my passion is my job. I feel so lucky to be able to encourage you to eat healthier, train harder, and live happier lives by doing what I enjoy. When I get to do Blogilates meetups in different cities, it warms my heart to know that you all are such good, positive, and inspirational people. I never expected my blog or videos to be helpful to so many people. So thank you for continually motivating me to be a better instructor. You helped me win the Shorty Award for #SocialFitness this year (see my funny acceptance speech here), I was named the Best Healthy Living Blogger of 2012 by FITNESS Magazine and am the #2 most influential online personality by Sharecare…only second to Jillian Michaels.

My life consists of lots of working out, eating clean, cooking clean, teaching fitness classes, designing for my store ShopBlogilates.com, writing, filming, editing, picture-taking, modeling, and producing. Oh and tweeting. Lots of tweeting. (Follow me @Blogilates)

  2. I have a question for you, Cassey! I’ve been reading your blog for a while (love it), and was wondering if you do a low-carb, high-fat diet most of the time?

    But many of your recipes seem low-carb. Do you do high-carb, low-fat?

    I’m wondering because I’m in the process of being healthier and eating clean, and I’m not sure which way to go!

    I have been following your videos for few months and (this might sound creepy) i am so excited to wake up and workout with you in the mornings! I look forward to starting my day with your positive energy that streams out of you, all the way through the computer to my home and gives me strength to attack my day! Even my 1 year old son loves to dance to the background music from your videos. You are so easy to relate to. You, Cassie, have put the joy right back in to my healthy lifestyle. My favorite part of your workouts is your constant dialogue. You leave no doubt as to what i should be making my body do, or where to position my limbs, or if i am doing it right! And your dialogue constantly motivates me with “think skinny jeans” and “strapless dresses” and even the random comments about “the gravel hurts my hands” or “dripping sweat on the carpet” keeps me going. I seriously laugh so hard all workout that it is like an extra abb workout in the midst of what im already trying to do.
    Also, i was SO shocked to read mean comments directed at you from other women. No person has the right to tell you what you are worth. Remember that!
    And i do have a suggestion for a video. I would love to see more yoga moves incorporated into your videos. Women want to be limber and yoga can be SO hard! I would to have the balance and strength to one day do a hand stand or crow pose…or some cool party trick ;)

  4. Dear Cassey I’m so glad you didn’t study medicine but followed your heart!
    For over 30 years I suffer from daily back pain due scoliosis.
    Went to Chiropractors, Physiotherapie and made my back exercises, I even had a Boston brace as a child to avoid surgery.
    It was a hard and painful live but now I found your Pop Pilates videos and thought some of the exercises look like my back exercises only yours are advanced.
    I started to do what I felt alright and now after only 3 days my lower back pain is gone!!!! (Have to confess that some other parts hurt but that is a good pain *g)
    Anyway, my lower back feels stronger (like something is supporting my spine to stay straight) and I have hope to get ‘fit for life’!
    It feels soooo good and I’m very thankful!
    I hope more back pain sufferers will find your web site and find hope for pain relief!

    Just want to say that you’re my inspiration! I’ve only been doing Pilates and your videos for 2 weeks but I’m already seeing a difference and I ADORE it! To burn fat fastest what do you think,I’ve been trying to do between 30-40min Pilates workouts every day and then I hop on my elliptical for another 10-20…..is the elliptical enough cardio to burn the fat that should? I mean if I’m eating right and doing Pilates,or should I be doing more cardio and less Pilates? Or something other than the elliptical? And I will switch it out with running or a cardio workout too…..

    Just want to say I love your website! I’ve got four stone to lose and have been trying for ages to find exercises that are lost cost and low impact on my joints, then you were recommended! I’ve now woken up aching in the right places instead of my knees and ankles, so a massive THANK YOU! Going to stick with your workouts in hope of getting fit (and slim, cus yer know, that’s nice too!) for summer!

    After doing just one of you’re awesome workouts, I felt amazing. I do at least one video a day in the morning. I love the 2 part summer/bikini workout, it’s amazing.

    • Hi, i really need you help. I’m 14 but I gaeind so much weight. I need your help. Cow can I lose weight? I can’t go to gym ’cause I’m too busy for that. I always do your pilates videos but I just won’t lose weight. What are the cardio exercises I can do at home? Please help me.

  17. Hey! I came across your videos on YouTube a few days ago, and they are amazing! Im going on vacation April 8th, and I was wondering, how much weight is it possible to lose in about 6 weeks (from now to my trip)? I weigh 140, but I am 5’7 and a dancer, so I am moderately active. I’m 13 by the way haha. But, I just want to tone up and slim down before summmmer time! My tummy is tight and is defined, and my quads are very muscular, but I don’t want them to get bigger. Is running going to make my thighs and butt bigger? Or will it get rid of fat and tone my muscles to make me thinner? Thank you!

  22. I can’t believe you’re teaching at Bally’s in Fremont! Before I moved to Jordan, that was my gym. My parents still go there, so I think I have to ask my mom to attend one of your live sessions! =) Hopefully you’ll still be around this summer when I visit! *must do more Cassey workouts daily* Oh, and thanks for this website! As much as a gym enthusiast I was in the states, I’ve had a hard time really feeling comfortable in the gyms here. You make working out at home fun and productive =)

  24. Is there a cardio video? I have knee problems and cannot run, jump, squat, lunge, bike or walk far. I’m allergic to chlorine and its too cold to swim in the lake. I need to get my heart pumping! Is there a sweat yourself silly in the comfort of your own Living room cardio video?

I do pilates classes at the gym I go to at my university and was looking for some pilates instructionals I could do at home on my off days – yours are just ideal!   28. Hey! I’m 16 and just discovered your blog and youtube videos. I’m a competitive soccer player, but on days off i love doing yoga (and now pilates) to get more toned and to gain more arm strength. My twin sister and I started doing some of your workouts and I am unbelievably sore! I just wanted to say that your workouts are AMAZING and I am planning on trying your recipes :) Is there a healthy substitute for protein powder if you don’t want to use that?

    • oGorgeous was something I started back in college and then just recently picked up full speed this year after quitting my job. Blogilates wasn’t planned and wasn’t really supposed to happen this way. My best advice is to be yourself 100% and be genuine. Your fans/students can tell when you’re being real. Authenticity is key.

    • Most of the pilates vids will be ok for u to do. Just avoid only planking, lunging, and my pop cardio videos.

      • thanks for the 2nd part of your comment. i alwyas try to use the least amt of equipment bc i know not everyone has the tools. plus ur body is a big ole weight itself!!! so i am very happy u notice that!

    I’ve never really been into pilates, I’ve attended a class here and there, but it never really excited me into working out. When I saw the POP Pilates on YouTube, I was intrigued. After watching some of your videos (and, naturally, visiting the site!), I’m actually excited to start doing these videos! Maybe the energy wasn’t high enough in the courses, but your enthusiasm and energy pops out of the videos! You really have a gift!

    I love your videos specially when you do it with a smile and so easily which makes me think even i can do it… You are a true motivation for me..
    Well im 68kgs and my height is 5’2 my ideal weight should be 55kgs..
    Iam actually an active person but because i developed PCOD it is difficult for me to lose weight.. :-(

  39. Luv it! Luv it! Luv it! Pop Pilates is all that I do now. I love how you use weights also in some of clips. Keep up the wonderful work. So Cassie you have a degree in Biology. What type of career would you prefer second to what you’re doing now? I love to garden– organically of course and everything to do with nature on this planet. As the cliche goes you are what you eat and include excerise too, specifically pop pilates!

  43. I have just discovered you through youtube.com. I’m a huge pilates fan, but have been stuck doing the same Windsor Pilates 20 minute routine for several years now and it’s not working for me anymore. I’m REALLY hoping your Saddlebag Shaver works miracles! haha Two quick questions for you: (1) Do you follow Weight Watchers? (2) I am not a cook and discovered a lot of my foods have refined sugars/carbs. I use these foods for simplicity & ease. As a working wife and mother of 2 small children, how would you advise me to eat healthy? Just as an example, where do you find WHOLE WHEAT bread and not enriched whole wheat for starters? It’s VERY difficult and discouraging to eat well when time is limited and experience in minimal.

    • Hey thanks for stopping by! No I don’t follow weight watchers. You can get 100% whole wheat bread anywhere these days but I suggest Trader Joes and Whole Foods. Try Ezekiel bread.
