How To Get Rid Of Cellulite

How To Get Rid Of Cellulite

cellulite

Hey guys!

It’s time to tackle cellulite.

It’s something that 80-90% of women all have. Yes 80 to 90 PERCENT!! Why does this cottage cheesy looking skin have to show up on our thighs and stomachs and make us feel super self-conscious when we wear booty shorts or a bikini!?

There’s actually a lot of misinformation about what cellulite is and what causes it. Most people assume it’s because they have too much fat on their body, or because they aren’t working out hard enough or eating healthy enough. But, many people who are extremely fit and healthy, STILL have cellulite!

As I mentioned, there has been a lot of debate and misinformation about what cellulite is, but through research, scientists have found that it’s not just about fat, it’s actually based around the structure of your skin.

16988314_mA study conducted by the International Dermal Institute, investigated the walls of women’s skin and they found that the outermost layer of tissues contains something called “fat cell chambers” that are separated by vertical connective tissues called “septa”. (Those are the gray lines in the figure above.) When stretched, the uppermost point of these chambers will billow up into a dome. Things that cause the arc-shape of the dome to form are: fluid retention, lack of strength due to little or no exercise, or excess fat. And when you have arcs, you have the appearance of small bumps on your skin, aka “cellulite”.

Now that you understand how cellulite forms, have you ever wondered why most women have it but men don’t?

In the 1970s. Dr. Nurnberger and Dr. Muller examined the structure of the skin and found that in female bodies, the hypodermis was made up of larger freestanding fat cell chambers separated by VERTICAL walls of septa, whereas in male bodies, the fat cell chambers are smaller and have DIAMOND shaped septa.

Having diamond shaped septa is the reason why you can’t see cellulite on guys! The structure of this type of septa gives the chamber more strength, so that even when fat cells swell up, they don’t push through and bulge at the skin.

GREAT.

Oh, and INTERESTING fact: men with more feminine characteristics tend to have fat cell chambers closer to those of women, which means that hormones are likely the reason for this structural difference.

These following things may be causing your cellulite:

  • Poor diet/nutrition
  • Lack of exercise
  • Dehydration
  • Smoking
  • High stress levels
  • Poor sleep habits
  • High % of total body fat
  • Family history of cellulite

So, what do you do to get rid of it?

There are many creams and products that SAY they will help remove cellulite, but there isn’t much evidence to prove that they actually work. Spa treatments and massages have been known to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite, but it doesn’t result in permanent removal. Laser treatment can shrink fat under the skin and reduce the look of cellulite, but again, there’s still mixed research about its effectiveness.

With all that being said, the 3 things that can actually help reduce the appearance of cellulite are:

1. Exercise

Regular physical activity will strengthen the connective fibers in your legs and stomach, which will reduce the appearance of cellulite. A combination of cardio and strength training has been known to help reduce the appearance of cellulite the most.

2. Nutrition

What you put into your body directly affects how it looks! Eating a diet high in leafy greens, will reduce inflammation in the body. Also, making sure to add fatty fish and nuts to your diet will get those essential fatty acids in, which help strengthen your connective tissue. Limit foods with added sugar, and high sodium to reduce bloating and fluid retention.

3. Hydration

Staying hydrated is also one of the best remedies for healthy looking skin because it supports healthy connective tissue. 80-120 oz of water a day is essential, especially if you’re active. So drink up! Also, try and keep carbonated and caffeinated drinks to a minimum.

See how it always comes back to fueling your body from the inside out? If you workout regularly and feed your body with whole foods, then your body will respond back in a positive way. Even though there are still factors that can play a role in the development of cellulite, the best and most natural thing to do is focus on strengthening your body and fueling it with nutritious foods.

But EVEN IF you do all of the above and you still have cellulite…honestly, WHO CARES! If you’re healthy, you’re good! Our bodies are so much more than the way it looks. And like I said above, a MAJORITY of women have cellulite. It’s like having hair – it JUST IS. Don’t let your physical attributes control how happy and confident you can be. Just don’t pay any mind to it. Keep doing what you do, and LIVE ON!

Comment below and let me know what makes you feel super self-conscious about your body.

  3. Hi,
Have a lot of stretch marks on my stomach. So much that it looks like seersucker fabric. I also have some scars on my arm from a bad case of poison ivy. I have been using the stretch mark cream on both areas. I like that it has no odor so it does not clash with my perfume. The stretch marks do seem less noticeable after 2 weeks of use. A little bit of the cream goes a long way. The marks on my arms have almost gone away.

I love love love my cellulite! I love it cause it’s so cool; it looks like there’s lightning going down my legs and I don’t know why, but i really like it. Honestly, I’d be sad to see it go..

I have searched and searched for a product that would help reduce my cellulite in my thighs and butt. I assumed there was no magic potion to help. I was so wrong. Dermalmd Cellulite Serum is absolutely amazing! After only a few uses, the appearance of cellulite has minimized drastically. I wish I would have taken a picture. BUT not only does this serum help with the appearance, I was actually having a bit of pain from my cellulite recently and this product takes that pain away. It works, it works, it works!!

  6. Kacie says:

I have been using dermalmd cellulite serum for approximately 5-6 weeks now and the region I am using it for is from knee up to the buttock area. I have a strict work out regime and trainer that kicks my butt weekly but for some reason the cellulite was not disappearing from my legs. Well thank god I found dermalmd cellulite serum ….. This seum has not only significantly decreased the appearance of cellulite but my skin is super soft! I would recommend using a skin massager with comfortable pressure as I have been told that you need to stimulate the cellulite to drain away.

Totally natural and workable tips. Thanks for this. You could also use try the dermology cream for this problem: http://bit.ly/ZClkPN

  9. Pauline Simons says:

Moving on a foam roller and stretching will help you loosen your muscle fascia. This is a muscle which when loosened help in circulation of the blood. It releases the toxins and also breaks up fatty tissues.

Thank you for this information. It will be really helpful for my friend as he is fighting with cellulite. I will ask him for any more suggestions and advices given to him by the doctor, so that I can benefit you more.

hi guys.. we girls shouldn’t forget that our female body is capable to stretch extremly while being pregnant and giving birth (I mean not all of us do and that’s OK). So, those who do just NEED flexible skin/tissue to be able to perform that great and miracle task. I always try to think of my body in that way (while looking at my cellulite ;)).

  15. Susan says:

Cellulite is probably my biggest insecurity. I feel like I’ve tried everything! I workout 5 to 6 times a day combining weights and cardio. I lunge and squat like crazy but I still can’t get rid of it. I’ve tried creams, nothing. I’m thinking that it might be because I don’t drink enough water but I don’t really get thirsty so maybe I need to just force it. I’m 24, 5’2 and weight about 128 and my body fat percentage is at like 27%. It’s super frustrating and discouraging because I’ve had it since high school and none of my friends have it. This has kept me from wearing a two peice because the cellulite looks so unsightly. I’m considering plastic surgery at this point but don’t know any procedures that can get rid of at least some of it! Any input from anyone would be great!

Could you please post about saggy boobs? How to make your boobs perkier and how to lose boob fat? Thank you!
Also, if you don’t have a thigh gap, your tighs will be full of rashes during summer. You could make a post about that too. Thanks a lot!

  18. sleepyolive says:

Cassey! Which of your exercise videos do you suggest would work best to combat cellulite and tone my thighs?! Thank you!!!

  19. Alexis says:

Heyy. Could you also please upload something on how to lose boob fat? There is everything everywhere about increasing it’s size but never to decrease.

  20. Sara Cooper says:

Very informative and useful article Cassey. Ageing is an unavoidable reason that also may cause cellulite in our body. When we grow old our body produce less estrogen—”a hormone that helps keep blood vessels flowing smoothly”. However, I may not mind cellulite when I am old…but until then i can do anything to avoid them in my body.

Interesting read! ooh those guys are so so lucky 😉
I dont personally have/ get cellulite (YET!!) I must be blessed with a strong hypodermic structure for that i am truely thankful! I do have a struggle beating the bloat though! This is my main insecurity. I can wake up looking slim (ish) and put on a cute outfit that accentuates my waist or is a nice close fit and by the end of the day I’m bulging out of it and things are looking a little more snug! I just know its a diet thing, my biggest “excuse” being I’m a stay at home mom of a 2 and 1 year old so I drink way to much caffeine to stay alert and i dont get very good sleep due to kids haha. Also having latina curves growing up in England is pretty difficult to find clothes that dont make me look frumpy! Can i find trousers that fit my waist/hip ratio?? Never. It took me all of school and most of university until now to realise that I’m never going to be a slender English Rose and to embrace my latina curves and own them! xx

  24. Kathy Mitchell says:

Thanks for sharing the above tips I will Try all of these, but because of my bust schedule I am not able to do all these thing, so can you recommend me some some instant remedy for my cellulite. Now I am using Cellmaxa a product of Solvaderm Brand, this cream also shrinks and reduces the volume of subcutaneous fat cells at grater extent.

  25. Cassie says:

I’ve never really dealt with cellulite, but I know what it feels like to have something that you are so insecure about and to have so much trouble getting rid of! Thank you so much for this post Cassey!

  26. Mere says:

Cassey, thank you so much for this blogpost. I loved how encouraging you were in telling us to not be ashamed to wear those shorts and swimsuits. I have it and I definitely have felt ashamed about it 🙁 and certainly struggle about wearing shorts and really anything short enough to show my upper legs. BUT I loved what you had to say and I’m going to remember that when I look in the mirror. ?
Would you be up for doing a blogpost on stretchmarks and also spider & varicose veins ? I know those might by hefty posts but once again those are other body issues I struggle with and really keep me self-conscious when I look in the mirror. I’m a mother of twin baby girls and I really want to grow in a healthy self image so that I can pass along to my girls a healthy one as well. It’s a generational thing ☺️

  27. Ella Yan says:

Thanks Cassey! I’ve read also that skin brushing is supposed to be great for cellulite – it just takes time.

  28. anjelica says:

First off, I love how positive and inspiring you are…truly!! I’ve long since come to terms with my cellulite, it’s barely noticeable anyway, it’s only on my butt and where my legs meet. My biggest problem is the dreaded “twin skin” from my twin pregnancy. The stretch marks I’m fine with(I actually like them), it’s the little bit of extra skin just around my belly button area. There have been a few times during your workouts, I look down and see it hanging down and start crying. I know not to compare myself to anyone(and I’ve been really good with that for the most part) but sometimes I can’t help it. The crappy part is it doesn’t make me want to work out more, I feel like not doing it, as I feel there is no point if I’m not seeing results. Sorry for getting a bit off topic, I’ve just been holding it in for so long.

    1. Mere says:

I have it from having twins as well and completely feel you on it! I am not sure how to get rid of it either! ? And I was certainly upset about it today as I was working out ( Thursday cardio day!!! )

  29. Kez says:

I have only just started noticing my cellulite, and I want to nip it in the butt (literally) before its gets comfortable and attached to me! hehe 🙂 Unfortunately I have all but two of those cellulite causing factors!

  30. Angela says:

Okay, so I’m going to be the jerk here and just say, I cannot make peace with my cellulite. I work so SO hard to eat right, exercise daily, and mix up my routine, and I HATE the way my legs look when I wear shorts. I feel disgusting. And the worst part? I’m an artist and an art model, and when I see cellulite on other women, I actually like it. I think it’s beautiful. I think women in general are beautiful, and that flaws are endearing. But when I turn that vision around, I’m so critical of myself and I can’t come to terms. I just had to put that out there. I don’t know why I’m like this, but it sucks.

    1. Katrina says:

Hey Angela, sometimes it takes more dramatic life events for us to be able to appreciate what we have. I lost my beautiful 28 year old cousin to cancer a few years ago, and even at the end of her life, she had a terrible time accepting the weight gain from her meds. But whenever I hear someone complain about the things they don’t like about their bodies, I think- but you’re healthy! Your legs are strong And carry you every day! You have hair! Your skin is healthy from eating well, instead of worn thin from chemotherapy! I know it’s a bit extreme, but I just wish girls could start thinking this way. Health is a gift, and so is aging. Let’s put on the sundress thT makea us feel pretty, smile, and give people something lovely to see!
( PS, my cousin was an artist, too 🙂

      1. Angela says:

Katrina, thank you for your response. Someone close to me is currently battling cancer, and you’re right…life is too short, and I am very lucky. Thank you for giving me some perspective on this. It encourages me to work harder to change my thinking. 🙂

  31. Marta says:

Great post! I’ve actually noticed a big diference in my cellulite by adding foam rolling into my exercise routine. I spend many hours seated and have bad circulation on my legs (and varicose veins since the age of 12…) which leads to cellulite even with a very healthy diet and exercise, being hydrated and rested..

  32. Madison says:

Hi Cassey! I love your blog and how positive you always are! A lot of times that positivity is just what I need. I am super self conscious about my skin. I struggle with acne (both face and body). I don’t ever feel comfortable wearing anything that shows my back. I have tried everything except birth control pills. My parents won’t let me and helicopter parent. Being self conscious about my skin definitely leads to being self conscious all around for me. I hate it but I can’t help it?

  33. Carmen says:

I really appreciated this article! Thank you so much! I eat well (mostly) and exercise frequently. I have a low BMI and am generally healthy. But I have cellulite on the front of my legs and it drives me nuts! The older I get, the more pronounced it becomes. I have an eight-year-old daughter who I really want to set a good example for in how we measure ourselves physically. I really want it to be all about being healthy, but then I see the cellulite and I just want to wear pants year round! I really appreciate articles like this… They help my perspective so much! Thank you again!

  34. Camilla says:

Thanks Cassey! Since starting working out regularly and eating clean I’ve definitely seen a change in my cellulite. It’s still there but a lot less compared to before I started my fitness journey. All thanks to you!

  35. Silvia says:

Great post! I belong to the lucky minority that doesn’t have cellulite. Both my mother and my grand-mother never had. It’s just genetics. In Italy there was a commercial few years ago for some anti-cellulite product that was stating that cellulite is an illness that could be treated. Seriously? So the 80% of women population is sick? This is how far they are going to make us ashamed of our natural body.

  36. Mollie Ryan Winninger says:

It can also be caused by a lack of circulation! The extremities have markedly less circulation than our centers or torso.

  37. Joy says:

Thanks for sharing Cassey! Great to have the facts and then tips for solutions :). My face being a little bit chubby, my legs, my nose being slightly crooked, my arm flab… all make me very self conscious but mainly my face :/ I really love your channel and workouts but lately I have been too depressed to care, therefore making me flabbier, and in turn more depressed. Plus I have horrible sleep patterns that can’t really be helped due to life situations right now 🙁 But I guess I’ll try to workout tonight using your videos and or calendar this month 😀 Love you Cassey!! ♡ ~Moltenkitty

  38. Klara says:

I have a bit of fat on my stomach that makes me self-conscious, I swim 4 times a week and I try to say that I’m healthy but it feels like I can’t get rid of it without going to the extrem. I often feel like I’m not skinny enough and to round, my brother is naturally very skinny and both my mother and father was very skinny when they where young. I think it’s very hard to determine if I should be training more and being more healthy when many of my classmates both train less and eat more unhealthy.
This post was very inspiring and you feel positive energy from it.

  39. Rosy says:

This is a great article Cassey!! What makes me self conscious is probably my lack of self motivation. When I put off a workout, eat something unhealthy, or simply don’t give something my all, I can’t help but feel lazy or weak. But your videos and posts help me to realize that all that self hate isn’t necessary! I’m 14 and my weight/diet is healthy!! (According to my doctor at least) 🙂 I did your workout calendar for about a month a while ago, but I had to stop because my anxiety got pretty bad :/ but school’s out for me now and I’m gonna start doing your workouts again very soon! Can’t wait!! 😀
    ~Rosy

  40. Rukmani Hans says:

The whole time I was thinking why do I have this!! Why!!! But now I know that I am not alone and I don’t need to be shame about it. All I need to do is just think positive, acceptance and take care of myself.
    Thanks Cassey ?

  41. Ashley Guzman says:

I really thank you for posting this because I’m 16 years old, 5’7″ tall and I weight around 110 pounds and I was self conscious because I’m relatively “thin” and I felt fat because I have cellulite . I agree with the previous comment, can you please post about stretch marks?

  42. Ileyah says:

Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been self-conscious for years because of my body! I carry a lot of cellulite on my legs and stomach and honestly I’ve never been to the beach because of it. Now that I know what to do, hopefully I can grain up enough confidence to wear a bikini and feel beautiful. Thank you so much Cassey!

  43. Warren Bloom says:

This is a fantastic article, I love that you delve into the anatomical and structural facts of the matter. It was very informative. As a personal trainer in Washington DC , I get a lot of inquiries from clients who want to hire a personal trainer for the summer about how to get rid of their cellulite and dimples. I’m happy to add this blog to a list of read-able I suggest to them. In my many years of training, I have also noticed the increase of my younger clients complaining about cellulite amongst a few other health issues. Another contributing factor which goes without saying I think is stress. Thank you for this awesome blog.

  44. Julia says:

Thanks so much for sharing this! A lot of people don’t know that cellulite doesn’t always have to be the result of bad eating or not exercising enough. One of my friends still thinks that having cellulite means you’re only eating junk food… And it makes me really really sad because I tried to explain her so many times. It makes me feel insecure, even though I know better.

  45. Sharon Barboza says:

Hi!! I recieved the password for the calendar but it says “error” everytime I try go get in. Anyone else? Cassey please help me out!! 🙁 🙁

  46. Caitlin Pickett says:

I’m a subscriber and haven’t received my June calendar password yet.. anyone else?

Hello Cassie, I didn’t find any contact form and I don’t know where to write you. I’m subscribed to the newsletter and I want to download the june calendar, but inserting the password I got for the May calendar it doesn’t work! Please hope you read this and you help me! My email is thefashionpeony@gmail.com. Thank you!

  48. On Asians tend to have cellulite? I feel like probably not so I’m thankful.

  49. Crystal Brandon says:

For me it’s a lot of post baby weight that makes me self conscious. Like my daughter will be 6 months old in a few days and I just can’t seem to lose that baby belly. I’ve been able to trim down my bum, but thighs and belly are being very stubborn. 🙁 I also am fighting with the psychological aspect of everything as well though. For basically the first 14 years of my life I was told I was fat, ugly, and will never amount to anything (by my older sister, not parents). I’m turning 26 this summer and I still battle with knowing that this is not the case. If you have suggestions on fixing body image issues I know that I would love to hear it and I’m sure other people would too. I know you have posted and made videos about your battle you had with your image of yourself and your personal trip to recovery, I was just hoping to hear some more general advice that may help more people. I am slowly making the mental shift from vanity to fitness and strength for my working out, It is just very difficult when I basically have no clothes that fit after having 2 kids in 2 years. So any more advice on improving body image?

  50. britishbelle says:

For me, ever since I became more body conscious, I’ve become more self conscious of my bones poking out, especially a floating rib I have on my right side that I never noticed before. I know the doctors say it’s normal, but I’ve become super aware of it and it always bugs me.

  51. Sat says:

I’m 43 years old. I have exercised since the age of 16, gym, running, yoga, pilates, hit and strength training. My diet is mainly healthy with treats whenever I want. I cook about 98% of my meals so I know what I’m eating. I’m a UK size 8. I have had stretch marks since I can remember and cellulite forever. No matter what I eat or how much I exercise my cellulite won’t shift. I drink 2 -3 litres water a day. I have accepted this is me and I can’t change it but still feel very conscious wearing shorts and bikinis despite the toned abs and shapely arms and muscle thighs! I’ll try to remember this great blog and just get on with it! Thank you.

  52. baesjling says:

It is probably worth mentioning that cellulite also has a genetic component. Some women will always have it no matter how fit or thin they get thanks to their family tree.

  53. Mrinalini says:

Hey Cassey! I just wanted to know when will the June calendar come out? It is 31st may today…

  54. Inga says:

I am super self-conscious because of my poor connective tissue that caused me stretch marks at age 11 and really bad cellulite beginning at age 13 (I have always been and still are very skinny), and also spider veins. I have coped with my small breasts, I have coped with so much, but I can’t cope with that. Right now I’m trying exercise and creams as a treatment. But if that doesn’t work, I will follow your advise and just let it be until I have enough money for a laser treatment.

  55. Maria Natalina says:

I used to be super self conscious about stretch marks! I had them when I was probably as young as 10, though I’d never been over weight. I have them all over my hips and thighs and have never left the 50th percentile in height and weight for girls my age for as long as I can remember. I pretty much dressed to hide my body for years, but eventually I got over it, and being a POPster these last few years and becoming stronger has given me even more confidence to embrace my body and dress for my own happiness. ? So thanks for that Cassey ?

  56. Elizabeth Stansbury says:

Thanks for sharing Cassey! It’s nice to get some real scientific facts in to not only make this topic interesting but to help people to understand how normal and biological cellulite is. My one request is could you possibly do a post like this related to stretch marks or chaffing? I know that these are completely different than cellulite but I believe for a lot of us cellulite, stretch marks and the uncomfortable rashy thigh chaffing go hand in hand when it comes to skin insecurities. I know I have struggled many years with accepting my “tiger stripes” and thunder thighs 🙂 I think the blogilates community would really appreciate it! Thanks again!

    1. blogilates says:

      That’s a great suggestion!

    2. Crystal Brandon says:

I agree with those being reasons to cover up. I can’t really wear shorts due to thigh chaffing I get. It just hurts. And I am trying to come to terms with my stretch marks since my daughter was born. 🙁 I feel yucky and not wanting o been seen because of them. That and me trying to lose baby belly. I’m losing weight on my thighs and bum, but I still have that lower belly bulge from my pregnancy…

      1. Elizabeth Stansbury says:

I have yet to be pregnant but I know I have struggled with stretch marks and chaffing since I was in middle school because most of my stretch marks are on my thighs. Working with little children and having them point at me asking what happened to my thighs it definitely puts me on the spot of “how can I explain this without embarrassing myself” It makes you sort of clam up and feel attacked but at the same time you can’t snap at little children haha so I refer to them as my tiger stripes and children get fascinated when I say that. It’s a little silly maybe but children think it’s cool! I think it’s important to realize that almost every single girl (and guy) has stretch marks no matter how much they way or how fit they are. I also think that you should try bremuda shorts! Although they aren’t the booty shorts we all tend to strive for now a days they can be super cute and help tremendously when it comes to chaffing. I personally like my shorts to be longer for this very reason. That way, not only are my stretch marks covered but I don’t feel like I have to waddle around with my thighs getting stuck together 🙂 hope this helps you out and I really hope Cassey does a post on this 🙂

      2. Bronwyn says:

Hey Crystal, I just wanted to share some encouragement. I also have had to learn to accept my body after having kids. I am a totally healthy weight, but I have stretch marks around my belly button and a diastasis recti (separation of the ab muscles), which was improved by physio but not totally healed. I’m expecting my third (and final) baby right now. Last summer I was swimming with my daughters and wore a bikini because my other swimsuits weren’t clean. I felt self-conscious but then out of the blue my older daughter said, “Mommy you look beautiful!” All of a sudden I realized that it didn’t matter that I used to look “hotter” but that I teach my children to feel secure and confident no matter how they look. There is so much more to life than a flat tummy. That said, the mummy tummy can be caused by a diastasis, which is a medical condition, so if you think you may have one it’s a good idea to speak with your doctor.

    3. Sandeep says:

Hi! My friends and I call that chafing “chub rub” haha
I got this glide stuff from amazon that really helps. It causes less irritation and makes wearing shorts a little bit more comfortable (although the only thing that’s helped with the chafing in general has been working out my legs like a madwoman)

“Chub rub” hahahahaha I love that? What’s the glide stuff called? I’ve looked up a few things that like “help” with chaffing but I’m too scared to try anything because i don’t know if it’ll work.

Not sure which one Sandeep was referencing but I use Body Glide – marathoners wear it while running. It totally works! Its in blue container, looks like a deodorant stick. Would totally recommend it!

Oh thank you! I’ll consider trying it out! 🙂

Baby powder helped me with my chaffing when I was losing my baby weight.

Arm and hammer has an anti chaffing stick too. I saw it at walmart on the band aid aisle. ?

Stretch marks are something that almost EVERYONE has, it’s not always due to being overweight. I have stretch marks all over my thighs and glutes but I’m a skinny person. I have other small friends who also have stretch marks. Stretch marks are caused when the cells of the skin can’t keep up with expansion of your body, so there are a lot of things that cause them! Examples are rapid weight gain, growth spurts, excessive stretching, and sometimes even gaining muscle! They’re nothing to be ashamed about, all different types of women have them and it’s something we all can embrace together!

      1. Elizabeth Stansbury says:

I even got stretch marks from losing weight at one point and I was like “ugh why me” but yes I do know that people of all body types and sizes have stretch marks! Some get them from growing tall as well. My boyfriend has them faintly on his knees and he’s a literal twig at like 120 pounds. I think people need to realize how normal it is to have them and almost every single person has them. It’s just that on some people, they’re more visible and dark which I know can make a lot of people insecure cause I’ve been through that. Thank you for sharing 🙂

I know how you feel. first i had strechmark from gaining just a little bit off weight on the legs and then from pregnancy, I was so ashamed of how i looked. I did not even wanted to go swimming cause people would stare at my belly with also like you tiger stripes. But one day beacause of cassey ( blogilates comunnity) got me over it and when i felt the confidents people stopped starring at me cause i was shinning away and they knew it. I think many people know how we feel and if we could make a different’s let start here where all over the would people come here to…. to know they are not allone.

This is probably what bothers me the most. I always say, I have come to terms with the shape and the size of my body. The only reason I would want my legs to be thinner or a different shape would be because it would signify them being stronger and healthier (as a result of clean eating and working out healthily, of course). What I can’t seem to come to terms with is the appearance of my skin, particularly my legs, because of cellulite. If I had the exact same legs, same size, same shape, same everything just without the lumps and bumps, I would feel soooo much better! The worst is that I always pick it up in the lighting of fitting rooms, which is when you least want to be hating your body because you’re trying stuff on and some things will fit and others wont. I start beating myself up about not doing enough cardio. I never did enough sport full stop, but over the past 2 years I have done a great job of finding my groove, which has predominantly been “strength” I suppose. Not weights, but Pilates sort of exercises, single moves like fire hydrants etc that don’t hit the cardio requirement so much. I really struggle to overcome that hurdle and seeing cellulite feels like a reminder of that failure.

  59. Sarah says:

What about stretch marks? Are those related to cellulite? I have some on my inner thighs, but still have been working out lately.

    1. Annie says:

Stretch marks happen when your body grows faster than your skin can handle. It’s perfectly normal, I have stretch marks on my inner and outer thighs, hips, knees, and the sides of my boobs and a good portion of them happened during puberty. I have also put on a bit of weight over the years from working a desk job and not working out which also contributed to them. They fade in appearance over time though

So true Cassey!! There was a time when cellulite controlled my self confidence and never wear shirts in summer!!!! Really? As you say, who cares! Cellulite is part of our female hormones, made by our oestrogen! And ? That’s the way it is! There is a huge business on that! A lot of money to earn ! The more they sell their “miracle cream” the more money they are going to earn! A self massage in the shower going up and down alternating cold and hot water it is good for your legs and help improve the lymphatic circulation.
Women with cellulite, yep!!! We worth it! Just learn to love it and live ” in peace “with it!!! ?

  61. Abbie Skaines says:

So interesting! I have cellulite on the back of my thighs. I did notice once that it started to dissappear when I was working out intensively and eating better. Which totally motivates me to live a healthy lifestyle! What a great perk!

      Good to hear Abbie!
