Did you know that at one point my shoe closet was dominated by high heels? And that I had 1 or 2 pairs of sneakers?
Crazy. I know.
Today – it has totally flip-flopped! Ever since I went full time as a fitness instructor, my main kicks are my Nikes. So comfy – so pretty – I can run when I am late – I can go from street to gym like bam – and I can kick someone if I am in danger. You know, all very functional and practical things. Although I love heels, sometimes I wonder why us females put ourselves through the torture!
I mean, heels definitely make your legs look longer and leaner and they make me straighten up and feel all proper when I wear them. I love the look of heels but oh boy, walking in em is cruel…cruel pedi-torture!
Hmmm…that last bit reminded me of something my 7th grade teacher mentioned in history class. I think we were discussing the origins behind female shoes and culture. We first talked about how the Chinese were obsessed with tiny feet that represented lotus. It first started in the palaces and then became a wide spread trend even among peasants. Mothers bound their daughter’s feet hoping for them to marry up in class. Historians say it was also a good way to keep a woman in the house due to handicapped mobility. The teacher then went on to hypothesize that maybe the origin of the modern day high heel was just another way that men could keep women from running away – disguised behind fashion. It’s a pretty feminist statement – I don’t know if it is true or not – but definitely something to think about.
Ah! Anyway. I love my sneakers because I don’t feel restricted. Ever! I can live, work, and play in them! I use them to train and teach. I also use them for running even though some people have suggested that Asics or Mizuno’s may be better for support. My feet feel fine in Nikes, so I stopped looking around.
As you all know I am a huge huge Nike Free Run fan. I only wish my budget allowed me to collect them all! Here’s a tip though. Try going to Nordstrom Rack or the Nike Clearance/Nike Factory store. You can score amazing deals on sneakers there. Usually these babies are around $100-$120 and you can get em for $60 and under at those stores! Totes worth it.
But guess what?
I have a surprise for you!
Umm…wanna win your own pair of CUSTOM-DESIGNED trainers!!!?????
That’s my latest baby right there! I just designed it on Nike.com and choose my own colors from the sole to the mesh to the laces…I even got to replace the “Nike” on the tongue with my own words. My right shoe will say TRAIN and the left will say INSANE.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THESE TO COME OH MY GAHHHHH.
What do you think of the colors? Do you like?
Well, I’ve been listening…and a lot of you POPsters wanted a sneaker giveaway…so here it is! I decided to team up with my friends over at Blood, Sweat & Cheers to make this happen. They run a fun newsletter that tells you all about fitness related activities (races, social events), workouts, music, and the latest in active gear and trendy workout fashion. I’ve signed up and they don’t ever spam me with anything crazy.
Wait. Let me take that back. This was pretty crazy…
What. The heck. Is that.
I nearly died when I saw these! Gave me such a good laugh. Apparently these Reebok ATV19+’s are supposed to mimic the tread of an ATV wheel in form and function. Would I wear them? No. I think I would just fall over. But I do like that I know of their existence :D The design is supposed to help you tread through “urban war zones” and can keep you from rolling your ankle if you’re struggling throughly muddy terrain etc.
Ah! Anyway, let’s get back to this giveaway shall we?
Blood, Sweat & Cheers and I will be picking one lucky POPster to win his/her own pair of fully customizable Nike Frees! And all you have to do is sign up for their free newsletter:
That’s it! Then comment below when you’re done just to make sure I have you covered in case anything doesn’t go through! Contest ends 2/27/2013 and is open to U.S. residents only.
